Job Description

AECOM is looking for an Engineering Co-Op Student interested in joining a premier engineering company with potential to gain experience on a variety of challenging transportation and infrastructure projects that include work within the highway, bridge, and mass transit industries. Clients include the City of Philadelphia and DelDOT statewide pavement rehab program, supporting clients such as PennDOT, DelDOT, Amtrak, the City of Philadelphia and SEPTA.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects. Additionally, AECOM's dedication to innovation and sustainability enables interns to contribute to meaningful projects that help shape communities and the built environment.

This position is expected to begin in Sept 2026.  

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with preliminary to final design calculations and plan development
  • Review field information
  • Conduct possible field inspections of existing facilities
  • Determine right-of-way requirements
  • Coordinate with utilities
  • Participate in detailed plan development for all phases of a design project
  • Use AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer, or other design software packages
  • Apply technical training to perform basic calculations
  • Adjust to short-term assignments and remain dedicated to long-term projects
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor's degree and plan to continue with the Master's degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor's degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship

  • Utilize MS Office applications
  • Willingness to work diligently to learn new skills
  • Computer literacy and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly are a requirement
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly
  • Adaptability and flexibility (adjusting to short-term and long-term assignments)
  • Dedication and commitment to project goals
