Summary:
Organizes and directs the delivery of patient care, and associated operations and personnel for a nursing unit. Has the authority to take any reasonable action necessary to fulfill the responsibilities delegated to him/her within the scope prescribed in these delegations, and as defined by the Senior Vice President, CNO-Nursing Administration, Nash General Hospital. As needed, provides nursing care in accordance with prescribed, delegated medical regimen and the hospital policies. Incumbents are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for practicing nursing within the scope of the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act.
Responsibilities:
1. Directs administrative operations of the unit.
2. Participates in planning for the future of the unit.
3. Coordinates the unit CQI program.
4. Directs assigned personnel in carrying out the mission of the unit to include, but not limited to:
Interviews, makes hiring recommendations, orients, and trains assigned employees.
Provides for the continuing education and professional growth needs of staff.
Prepares work schedules and posts.
Modifies schedules to reflect changing patient census and employee needs, as necessary.
Approves meal and rest periods, as warranted.
Monitors work results for quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
Investigates complaints, errors and other operational or equipment problems, and takes corrective action.
Develops employee performance capabilities and prepares/presents performance reviews of assigned staff.
Counsels employees with performance or behavioral problems.
Makes recommendations regarding transfers and promotions.
Disciplines or discharges employees as needed and approved.
5. Collaborates and communicates with staff, therapists, physicians, and ancillary services to facilitate the delivery of safe, effective, and timely patient care.
6. Routinely monitors the provision of care provided on the unit, and takes steps to correct deficiencies, omissions, and other problems.
7. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.
8. Knows, applies, and enforces safety and infection control procedures.
9. Supports and promotes the interests of Nash Health Care Systems and its subsidiaries.
10. Models professional behavior.
11. Takes an active role in self-development.
12. Provides nursing care to patients, as needed, to ensure adequacy and timeliness of service.
13. Performs miscellaneous duties, as needed, to support unit operations and the provision of care.
Other information:
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare/Other. Will consider associate degree & experience in lieu of BSN.
Master's degree in Healthcare/Other preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
BCLS Certification. Recertification required every 2 years.
Specialty certification. Management Development course work or training.
ACLS certification preferred.
Professional Experience Requirements:
5 years of Healthcare/Medical experience.
Substantial nursing experience in a nursing specialty or sub-specialty preferred.
