Job description

An emergency apparatus plumbing technician is specialized in the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of the complex water, foam, and hydraulic systems found in fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

· Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Identify and assess complex plumbing issues, leaks, and mechanical malfunctions within the vehicle's systems, including pumps, valves, and piping.

· Installation and Repair: Install, repair, and maintain pipes, fittings, fixtures, pumps, and fluid controls. This often involves cutting, bending, threading, and welding pipe materials.

· Fabricate and Assemble Components: Utilize various techniques (welding, cutting, drilling, forming, grinding) to create and assemble metal parts and structures according to specifications.

· Quality Control: Perform quality inspections on finished products using precision measuring instruments (gauges, tape measures, squares) to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.

· Testing: Operate and test completed assemblies to confirm they are functioning correctly and meet prescribed standards. (Skid Units)

· Safety and Maintenance: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area (adhering to 5S standards), and perform basic equipment maintenance.

· Documentation: Complete basic production and quality paperwork or checklists as required, documenting issues, or applying labels to finished products according to company procedures.

· Collaboration: Coordinate with other emergency vehicle technicians, department personnel, and sales to ensure seamless installation and service activities.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

· Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of the mechanic's and plumbing trades, with a focus on fluid dynamics, pipe layouts, and pressure systems.

· Problem-Solving: Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose problems quickly and accurately under pressure.

· Physical Stamina: The ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, at various heights (e.g., ladders), and in various body positions when required.

· Specifications Interpretation: Accurately interpret written instructions, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine project requirements, dimensions, and specifications.

· Soft Skills: Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
