Job description

Meyer Utility Structures is searching for a CNC - Plasma Cutting Machine Operator for our new location in Clinton, IL. This operator will be required to operate and maintain a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) plasma cutting machine to fabricate parts from metal plates and sheets, ensuring all products meet quality and safety standards.
Meyer Utility Structures is an industry leader in the engineering design and fabrication of concrete and tubular steel structures for transmission, distribution, and substation applications. With over sixty years of innovative engineering and manufacturing expertise, Meyer has helped to author and validate many of today's transmission industry standards and specifications.
What You'll Do:
  • Set up and operate the CNC plasma cutting machine according to drawings or program number
  • Safely load and unload raw metal materials onto the cutting table, often using an overhead crane or forklift to move finished products to the appropriate holding areas
  • Input or download programs via flash drive or direct connect, adjust machine settings (e.g., cutting speeds, gas pressures, amperage) and perform test runs to ensure specifications are met
  • Inspect and measure finished products using precision instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, tape measures) to verify dimensions and quality, following established quality assurance procedures
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly), replace worn consumables (tips, nozzles, electrodes), troubleshoot operational malfunctions, and report major issues to supervisors or maintenance teams
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures and regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring proper ventilation and grounding
  • Accurately record production data, complete work orders, document machine activities and irregularities, and collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflow

What You'll Need:
  • Prior experience operating a plasma table or similar CNC machinery in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • Basic computer literacy and knowledge of relevant software (e.g., CAD for nesting programs)
  • Ability to read tape measure
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a results-driven approach
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, squat, and kneel
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
