FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Yoga
Summit on the Park
Part Time
Pay Rate: $40.00 per class
Schedule: Sunday-Saturday (6:00am-9:00pm)
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for leading enjoyable and safe fitness classes and/or aquatic fitness classes for Summit on the Park patrons. Employees in this position will initially substitute Fitness Instructors and may later obtain permanent class assignment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)
  • Instructs and demonstrates fitness activities as assigned.
  • Promotes knowledge of proper group fitness components, including warm-up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, and cool down.
  • Plans routines, chooses appropriate music, and chooses different movements for each set of muscles depending on participants' capabilities and limitations.
  • Observes participants and informs them of corrective measures necessary for skill improvement.
  • Teaches proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion.
  • Assists patrons, answers questions and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
  • Informs management of customer and facility needs.
  • Ensures safety rules, policies, regulations and procedures are followed by the public.
  • Provides a fun and safe environment for all participants.
  • Displays a positive and professional attitude toward class participants as well as fellow staff members.
  • Dresses appropriately and professionally at all times.
  • Responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute from the Summit fitness staff list whenever absent.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled and assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining order of fitness equipment in classrooms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS-KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess current NCCA-recognized certification; Personal Training certification is preferred.
  • Fitness Instructors may add the secondary position of Specialty Fitness Instructor upon submitting proof of current Barre, Cardio Drumming, Yoga, Zumba or equivalent specialized fitness certification. Approval of specialized fitness certification is at the sole discretion of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director or designee.
  • Must possess basic first aid and CPR certifications prior to first class.
  • Knowledgeable of the cardiovascular system and human anatomy, including specific muscle groups.
  • The employee must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout.
  • Strong interest in physical fitness and exercise promotion.
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems and policies with fellow employees and the public tactfully and courteously.
  • Must be willing to conform to the department's standard of appearance or uniform policy.
  • Previous experience dealing with the public in a mature, professional and responsible manner preferred.
  • Friendly and enthusiastic personality, with the ability to motivate class participants.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays. and substitute when needed.
  • This is an "At-Will" position. Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements, and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting, and staff availability.

  • This is a part-time job opportunity. An employee is this position can work up to 29 hours per week year-round. Work hours, however, will be solely determined based on workload and availability.
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position are not full-time and will be classified as part-time employees.
