Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Position Title Interim Laboratory Technician Employment Status Part Time Months 12 Campus Biddeford, ME Description
The Interim Laboratory Technician performs directed and independent research in the College of Osteopathic Medicine as part of a research team and under the supervision of the PI. This position focuses on the neuroimmune mechanisms involved in the development of HIV-associated neurological disorders.
The Interim Laboratory Technician will devise and implement both in vitro studies, primarily, and in vivo studies involving animals, specifically rodents, and infectious agents or their components. Techniques may include multiplex assays, ELISAs, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, biochemistry techniques, and other relevant methods that may arise throughout the project. This position will also analyze data and prepare results for publication.
This is a temporary, part-time opportunity anticipated to work up to 20 hours per week. The anticipated rate of pay is $21.78 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Keep the laboratory clean, safe, organized, and fully functioning at all times, ensuring compliance with safety and risk management requirements.
  • Manage laboratory waste disposal, including hazardous waste.
  • Maintain inventory and order laboratory supplies, including keeping an up-to-date list of all laboratory reagents, such as chemicals, antibodies, and PCR primers, as well as Safety Data Sheets.
  • Ensure laboratory supplies are organized, properly labeled with receiving dates and intended use, such as surgery supplies, and checked for expiration dates.
  • Prepare reagents, standards, buffers, stock solutions, and media for bacteria and virus host cells.
  • Maintain host cell lines and viral pathogen stocks.
  • Perform behavioral tests, various types of handling and injections, maintenance of infected mouse colonies, and tissue sample collection involving mice.
  • Perform specific laboratory techniques, including ELISA, Western blot, PCR, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and virus enumeration via plaque assay.
  • Maintain clear and detailed experimental notes.
  • Analyze and graph data as needed.
  • Prepare posters and PowerPoint presentations as needed.
  • Assist with manuscript and grant preparation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in biological sciences, including but not limited to biochemistry, medical biology, immunology, microbiology, or a related field.
  • Preferred 2-3 years of relevant experience in laboratory research, data collection, analysis, and presentation.
  • Experience adhering to general biosafety practices.
  • Experience performing administrative duties, such as ordering laboratory supplies and maintaining records, including invoices, training certificates, and related documentation.
