The Nook Pharmacy

Position: Retail Pharmacy Tech

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Pharmacy Technician supports the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of pharmaceutical services in an outpatient community pharmacy setting. Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists with medication preparation and dispensing, prescription processing, inventory management, customer service, and regulatory compliance. This role is critical to ensuring accurate medication distribution, high-quality patient service, and optimal pharmacy workflow.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Current Pharmacy Technician registration or licensure with Iowa Board of Pharmacy

National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred or required within one year after hire

ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Reports to Retail Pharmacy Manager

DIRECT REPORTS:

POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

Pharmacy Operations

  • Receive, interpret, and process prescription orders under pharmacist supervision
  • Enter prescription data accurately into the pharmacy system
  • Prepare, label, and package medications for dispensing
  • Assist patients at the pharmacy counter and drive-through, including prescription pickup and payment processing
  • Answer phones and route questions or clinical concerns to the pharmacist appropriately
  • Manage inventory, including ordering, stocking, rotating, and returning medications
  • Assist with third-party billing, prior authorizations, and insurance troubleshooting as assigned
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including documentation and reporting of dispensing issues or near-misses
  • Follow established procedures for handling-controlled substances
  • Support pharmacy initiatives such as medication synchronization, immunization clinics, or adherence programs as applicable
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and hospital privacy and information security policies
  • Maintain professionalism and patient trust in all interactions
