Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for an Operations Support Specialist at our Piedmont, SC manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for accounts payable processing, job costing and cost‑estimate development, analysis of standard costs and profitability, and the creation and maintenance of material master data within the SAP system. The specialist also manages Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routing slips to ensure accurate production planning and costing.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. As the successful candidate, you will be expected to support the financial, operational, and manufacturing functions of the organization.

Your additional responsibilities as Operations Support Specialist will include:

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Process vendor invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents; resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain vendor files, statements, and payment schedules.
  • Support month‑end close activities, including AP accruals.

Job Costing & Standard Costing

  • Prepare job cost estimates for new products or projects.
  • Analyze job cost performance vs. estimates to identify variances.
  • Review and maintain standard costs in SAP to ensure accuracy.

SAP Material Master Data

  • Set up new materials in SAP, ensuring accuracy across all required fields.
  • Maintain and update existing material master records as needed.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and manufacturing to ensure data consistency.

BOM and Routing Management

  • Create, review, and edit Bills of Materials to ensure accurate costing.
  • Build and update routing slips to reflect proper labor steps and operational sequences.

Skills and Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
  • Ability to read and understand BOMs, routings, and cost structures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in operations support, manufacturing, accounts payable, or cost accounting.
  • Experience with SAP highly preferred.
  • Experience with job costing or standard cost maintenance is a plus.
