The Lead DevOps Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for driving DevOps execution, cloud-native platform operations, CI/CD excellence, and infrastructure reliability across Zynx Health's engineering organization.

Reporting directly to the Director of Product Development, this role leads the DevOps function while remaining deeply engaged in implementation. The Lead DevOps Engineer designs, builds, and optimizes CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes/OpenShift environments, infrastructure-as-code practices, and observability frameworks that support backend services (Java/Groovy/Spring Boot, .NET Core), frontend applications (React, Svelte), and data platforms (MarkLogic, SQL, Redis).

This role manages and mentors DevOps Engineers who operate as a shared service team supporting multiple full-stack development teams. The Lead DevOps Engineer ensures that deployments are reliable, environments are scalable, automation is mature, and platform standards are consistently applied across projects.

Working closely with the Principal Enterprise Architect and Security & Compliance Lead, this role ensures DevOps practices align with enterprise architecture standards, healthcare regulatory requirements, and the strategic direction set by the Director of Product Development.

The Lead DevOps Engineer also champions responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools such as Cursor, Cline, and Claude Code to enhance automation, improve deployment quality, accelerate troubleshooting, and elevate platform documentation and operational efficiency.

DevOps Engineers operate as a shared service platform team supporting multiple full-stack development teams across backend services, frontend applications, data platforms, and cloud-native infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing technical leadership and architectural direction across all DevOps initiatives.
  • Establishing engineering standards for CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, observability, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Allocating DevOps resources across concurrent product initiatives based on priorities set by the Director of Product Development.
  • Conducting performance evaluations, career development planning, and technical mentorship.
  • Ensuring consistent operational excellence, reliability, security compliance, and automation maturity across environments.
  • Building scalable DevOps processes that enable autonomy within full-stack teams while maintaining governance and architectural alignment.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Platform Engineering roles.
  • 2-4 years of experience serving in a senior or lead-level DevOps capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring DevOps or infrastructure engineers.

Strong hands-on experience with:

  • Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift
  • Docker and containerized application deployment
  • GitLab CI/CD and/or Tekton pipeline implementation
  • Infrastructure-as-code principles and automation scripting
  • Observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry

Experience supporting modern application stacks including:

  • Java/Groovy Spring Boot microservices
  • React and/or Svelte frontends
  • MarkLogic, SQL, and Redis data platforms

Experience implementing DevSecOps practices, including:

  • Secure pipeline integration
  • Identity and access standards (OAuth2/OIDC, Keycloak, JWT)
  • Vulnerability scanning and secrets management

Experience operating in healthcare or other regulated environments strongly preferred.

Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Cline, Claude Code) in automation, infrastructure scripting, or troubleshooting workflows preferred.

Experience / Skills Required

Technical Leadership

  • Strong hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Ability to lead CI/CD architecture and automation initiatives.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, application, and data layers.
  • Experience implementing high-availability and disaster recovery practices.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineers through technical mentorship and example.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across development, QA, security, and architecture.
  • Ability to balance shared-service DevOps responsibilities across multiple teams.
