Job description

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
  1. Inputs mix design formula into computer to batch specified material.
  2. Operates plant and batches material in various tonnages as required to coordinate with production schedule, jobsites, different mix designs and truck schedule; optimizes plant production rates and efficiencies.
  3. Loads hotmix into hauling trucks
  4. Does daily and monthly inventory of raw materials and daily production.
  5. Performs daily and scheduled maintenance of the Asphalt Plant; document, communicate, & performs/assists with repairs as required.
  6. Maintains a basic knowledge of aggregates and cold-feed system for aggregate, RAP and glass.
  7. Performs calibration of feed, pump and metering systems.
  8. Controls burner system and heat transfer process, mineral filler, and baghouse fines feed system.
  9. Ensures effective use of asphalt storage and scale.
  10. Communicates with plant crew and management effectively. Inform management of any plant issues. Advise plant down time timely.
  11. Leads the HMA crew to ensure that production needs are met by using company assets and personnel in an efficient manner.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. High school diploma and 8-10 years' experience operating a hot mix plant.
  2. Working proficiency on computers, scale systems, & email.
  3. Math skills sufficient to calculate month-end inventory of raw materials and daily tonnage and to apply to daily operations.
  4. Ability to use hand and pneumatic tools, arc welder, oxygen-acetylene torches, & other tools as necessary.
  5. Valid driver's license and favorable traffic abstract.
  6. Weighmasters license or ability to acquire one.
  7. Ability to work overtime, weekends, nights or holidays as required by jobs.
  8. Ability to travel to outer-islands as required by jobs.
  9. Capable of multiple dexterity, climbing, working in confined spaces or at heights, and with exposure to noise, extreme temperature, and chemicals/dust/fumes.
  10. Able to lift/carry 40 pounds.

We primarily employ carpenters, laborers, and operating engineers. We are signatory to collective bargaining agreements with the following unions listed below and are subject to the hiring rules of each collective bargaining agreement. We anticipate hiring for projects on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai as work becomes available and will be contacting the respective union to fill these positions:
