Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Nutrition Leader will empower and support children and their parents/caregivers to make healthy lifestyle changes and choices that help them manage chronic medical conditions, improve the quality of their life, and reduce their health risks. The Nutrition Leader is responsible for coordinating and leading the nutrition education portion programs and providing individual and family coaching and advising in the Healthy Lifestyles Clinic.
Essential Functions:
  • 1. Program Implementation
    Manages planning and delivery of nutrition education programs, including choosing and teaching weekly curriculum topics, and adjusting curriculum as needed to fit needs of participating groups and individuals. Selects healthy snack and other supplies to accompany each lesson and prepares snacks and equipment for classes. Prepares the venue and cleans up after each session. Assists with food distribution with Denver Food Rescue partnership.

  • 2. Patient recruitment and retention
    Manges and fills program schedules by calling patients and managing referrals. Adjusts templates as needed based on current no show rates to ensure adequate program participation. Updates both clinic and program staff on current program wait times and availability.

  • 3. Nutrition Advising
    Provides tailored nutrition advise and health coaching to families and individuals in all programs. Answers patients questions regarding appropriate healthy lifestyle changes.

  • 4. Strategy and Planning
    Assist in the implementation of short- and long-term priorities of the team. Partners with leadership to implement strategic plans to achieve maximum department output and contribution to Denver Health strategy. Identifies potential community partnerships based on patient needs.

  • 5. Quality Improvement
    Collaborates with other program staff and managers to identify areas of improvement and growth based on experience with programs and patients. Utilizes established processes (e.g., Lean) philosophy and methodology to continually improve standard work and processes.

Education:
  • Associate's Degree Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years Considerable experience working with children and families, and leading groups. Required and
  • 1-3 years Experience in dietetics, nutrition, children's health, behavioral change and/or physical activity ideal. Required

Licenses:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to motivate and inspire meaningful change in groups of children and parents.
  • Ability to comply with relevant child protection guidelines.
  • Able to take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of children attending the program.
  • Ability to act in accordance with the law and all applicable regulatory controls.
  • Ability to conduct themselves and staff to act at all times in a professional and diligent manner that befits working with and holding a position of responsibility over children.
  • Ability to work well as a team, and show respect for patients and families as well as staff.
