Position Summary
The University of New Mexico, Department of Surgery, is seeking a currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve in the role of Division Chief for Plastic Surgery. Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, the incoming Chief will be responsible for partnering with the Chair to develop clinical programs and expand research while focusing on academic success in a collaborative environment. The Division Chief will oversee clinical service, patient care, research and scholarship, education and mentorship. The growth and development of faculty within the division is a priority for the department and offers a tremendous opportunity for the new division chief. The incumbent will have a proven record of accomplishment in leadership, clinical excellence, patient care, education, and mentorship to develop the Division in all of its mission areas.
We are seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) Plastic Surgeon, a well-qualified individual with diverse training and experience in Plastic Surgery with expertise in Microsurgery and a focus on Breast reconstruction as well as interest in General reconstruction, Maxillofacial trauma, Cosmetic surgery, and Hand surgery. In addition, this is an excellent opportunity for a Plastic surgeon seeking Academic advancement. A joint appointment with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, for applicants interested in Hand/Extremity reconstructive surgery, is available on request. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Medical Doctor, Board Certified/Board Eligible in Plastic Surgery
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of New Mexico
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced training/experience in a Plastic Surgery subspecialty, i.e. Breast, Burn, Craniofacial, Hand/Microsurgery
  • Strong interest in Plastic Surgery resident education and research
  • Experience in undergraduate/graduate medical education
  • Prior academic experience
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
