The Module Process Engineer specializes in optimizing processes for specific modules or components within manufacturing, especially in electronics or semiconductor industries. In contrast, the Process Engineer has a broader role across various processes and industries. Both roles require similar technical skills and certifications but differ in focus and application.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Module Process Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Module Process Engineer, you need a strong background in chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field, often backed by a relevant bachelor's or master’s degree. Familiarity with process simulation software, statistical process control tools, and experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive process improvements. These competencies are crucial for optimizing production efficiency, ensuring product quality, and maintaining competitiveness in advanced manufacturing environments.

What is a Module Process Engineer?

A Module Process Engineer is a specialist who designs, develops, and optimizes the manufacturing processes for specific modules or components in industries like semiconductors, electronics, or solar panels. They work to improve process efficiency, yield, and quality while ensuring that production meets technical and safety standards. Module Process Engineers often collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, implement new technologies, and support scale-up efforts from prototype to mass production.

What engineer can make 500,000 a year?

A highly experienced senior or specialized engineer, such as a petroleum engineer, aerospace engineer, or certain software engineers in leadership roles, can potentially earn $500,000 annually. Achieving this level often requires advanced skills, extensive experience, leadership responsibilities, and working in high-paying industries or companies.

What are some common challenges faced by Module Process Engineers in semiconductor manufacturing, and how can they be addressed?

Module Process Engineers often encounter challenges such as maintaining process stability, minimizing defects, and meeting tight production schedules in a fast-paced semiconductor environment. These issues require strong analytical skills to quickly identify root causes and implement effective solutions, often while collaborating with cross-functional teams like equipment engineers and quality assurance. Staying updated with the latest process technologies and continuously improving process parameters are key to overcoming these challenges. Effective communication and adaptability are also essential, as priorities can shift rapidly based on production demands.

Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you've come to the right place!
E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.
We're intentional, we're unapologetically curious and we're 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.
The E-Space Manufacturing Solar Team builds the world's most advanced aerospace products.
The Engineer using co-evaporation or sputter vacuum deposition is responsible for the operation, troubleshooting and improvement of thin-film deposition processes in roll-to-roll (R2R) vacuum equipment.
The focus of this role is on preparing, maintaining, repairing and running large physical vapor deposition equipment in a roll-to-roll format to successfully produce thin film product at large scale. The engineer will work closely with equipment, and maintenance engineers, process engineers for other process steps, backend, and production teams to deliver manufacturable thin-film product.
What you'll be doing:

  • Prepare, operate, and maintain co-evaporation or sputter equipment for thin-film deposition in roll-to-roll vacuum systems.
  • >
  • Support the modification and repair of large-area R2R vacuum deposition equipment, including vacuum sensors and pressure gauges, vacuum pumps and valves.
  • >
  • Rebuild and install deposition sources that include complex mechanical parts, specialty materials, and electrical connections.
  • >
  • Diagnose problems based on close examination of mechanical assemblies, process characteristics and software diagnostics.
  • >
  • Observe and control process parameters such as deposition rates, substrate temperature, vacuum conditions, and web speed to assure proper operation or make setpoint corrections.
  • >
  • Troubleshoot process deviations related to composition, uniformity, adhesion, and device performance.
  • >
  • Collaborate with device and backend teams to ensure deposition processes are compatible with interconnection, lamination, and module assembly.
  • >
  • Support scale-up from lab or pilot systems to high-volume roll-to-roll production.
  • >
  • Develop and document process recipes, operating procedures, and control limits.
  • >
  • Support performance improvement initiatives targeting efficiency, yield, and reproducibility.
  • >

What you will bring to this role:
  • MS in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or BS with significant relevant industry experience).
  • >
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in thin-film vacuum deposition.
  • >
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability for complex vacuum deposition equipment.
  • >
  • Experience working with vacuum systems, vacuum gauges, valves, and control methods.
  • >
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary manufacturing and R&D environment.
  • >
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • >

Extra points for the following:
  • Experience with complex deposition hardware for large-area or high-throughput systems.
  • >
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting PLC controlled equipment.
  • >
  • Experience operating closed-loop or real-time process control for semiconductor deposition.
  • >
  • Experience designing and building equipment for thin film semiconductor deposition and thermal processes.
