Elevator MOD Mechanic Job DescriptionLocation: Elmsford, NY

The New Construction and Modernization Mechanic performs complex maintenance and repair tasks on elevators and escalators and troubleshoots related problems.

Essential Functions
  • Install and / or upgrade various elevator equipment, from ground break to final inspections.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Interact with customers, GC’s and / or business owners – exchange information in a professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace and install a variety of elevator/escalator systems, components and fixtures.
  • Assist in the replacement or installation of new elevators and escalators.
  • Repair and overhaul defective components, operate devices to test performance, lubricate and clean components and equipment.
  • Make major adjustments to functional components, devices, and control instruments and improve elevator/escalator reliability and performance.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on elevators and escalators.
  • Repair electrical support equipment and respond to equipment deficiencies, determine problem(s) and repair and restore the elevator/escalator equipment to serviceable status.
  • Dismantle elevator/escalator units using hoists, ladders, and hand and power tools to gain access to components and machinery.
  • Comply with all elevator, escalator and construction related regulations, laws and codes.
  • Adhere to codes established by the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) and ANSI/ASME.
  • Perform assignments in accordance with established maintenance and safety rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Attend on-the-job and formal training classes.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area.
  • Work variable days, shifts and hours as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: A high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate (GED) and completion of a Vocational or technical training program in an Elevator and Escalator maintenance.
  • Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the Elevator/Escalator field doing maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. Hold Elevator Mechanic licensing (or credentials to obtain) with minimum 4 years in the trade with elevator license (ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). Successful completion of 4- year federally approved apprenticeship program is an added plus.
  • Ability to perform general physical activities, fit-for duty that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials with fine manipulation.
  • Able to travel out of town as needed.
  • Certification/Licensure: Any, one (1) or more, of the following: Certification from (NEIP) National Elevator Industry Education Program, Certified Elevator Technician (CET), Current State mechanic licenses, Valid Driver’s License.
