Job Description
As Associate Counsel - Renewables, you will provide support to Nidec's Conversion Division on all legal matters with a focus on legal work related to the renewable market.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements focusing on the renewable market but also including master supply agreements with international and domestic customers and suppliers, engagement letters with professional advisors, software license agreements, joint-development agreements for creation of intellectual property, non-disclosure agreements, commercial terms and conditions of sale and purchase, sales representative agreements and distribution agreements.
  • Analyzing and interpreting contract provisions in order to provide legal guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Conducting legal research on various legal matters as they arise.
  • Providing support as needed to the Vice President of Legal Services and the Corporate Counsel.
  • Managing and delegating tasks, as appropriate, to outside counsel and support staff within the law department.
  • Interacting and developing professional relationships with other members of the law department and internal and external stakeholders to support Nidec's business goals.
  • Developing and maintaining a database of contracts.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from an ABA-accredited law school, ranking in the Top 50% of graduating class.
  • License to practice law in a minimum of one state (preferably, Missouri or Ohio).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in drafting and negotiating renewable commercial contracts with a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks to provide high-quality work product to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on occasion (less than 10% of the time).
  • Excellent business judgment and the ability to work closely with a variety of businesses and personnel to provide timely legal advice and drive practical business solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with high attention to detail, strong organization skills and management focus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
