Job Description:

As the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader, you will, both technically and disciplinarily, lead a team of mechanical engineers and drafters. You will be reporting directly to the Director of US Mechanical Engineering.

You may also lead engineering projects for sold work, sustaining engineering, or NPD, guiding a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers, who work together on a project-by-project basis. In this capacity, you will have dotted-line reporting to the Global Leader of New Product Development, sustaining engineering or sold work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead and mentor a mechanical engineering team, where daily duties and priorities of that team are set by leaders of NPD, Sustaining, and Sold Work
  • Coordinate, plan, and distribute team resources related to prioritized requests in agreement with the Director of US Mechanical Engineering, directed by NPD, Sustaining, and Sold work leaders
  • Responsible for engineers' professional development, cultivating strength while optimizing weakness, and continually growing engineers' skills in consideration of diverse cultural backgrounds with the goal of creating a strong, motivated, and balanced team
  • Ensuring that the team has adequate skills redundancy and every member is part of a robust succession plan
  • An ambassador of cultural collaboration, innovation, and ensuring accountability across engineering
  • Promote an environment of modular development, DFM, and producing designs from a standard parts catalog
  • Identify technological trends and ensure we continue to recruit new skills as necessary
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to define team and individual goals, celebrating success and promoting individual recognition

Engineering Excellence & Process Implementation

  • Lead end-to-end projects from concept, through prototype, to 100% ready-to-use products that meet customer requirements by implementing the BW stage-gate process
  • Ensure projects are run efficiently, delivering milestones on time and on budget
  • Use new and existing tools, processes, and AI to support development processes
  • Ensure engineering projects are fully documented. Allowing operation, internal sales to function efficiently, and providing data for manuals and spare part catalogs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required; Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years progressive mechanical engineering experience and 3+ years in people-focused leadership roles for mechanical engineering
