Position Overview:
The Measure Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate measurement and assessment of glass and framing systems for both residential and commercial projects. This position involves visiting client locations to take precise measurements for glass installations, repairs, and custom fabrication. The Measure Tech is responsible for documenting measurements, communicating with the project team, and providing excellent customer service on-site. Attention to detail and technical expertise are essential in ensuring successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Measurement and Site Assessment:
    • Travel to residential and commercial job sites to take accurate measurements for glass installation, repairs, and custom fabrication.
    • Conduct detailed assessments of existing windows, doors, mirrors, glass partitions, shower enclosures, and other glass-related installations.
    • Identify and record specific requirements, including dimensions, framing, hardware needs, and any potential obstructions or structural concerns.
    • Ensure all measurements are taken to industry standards and adhere to client specifications.
  • Customer Interaction:
    • Interact with clients in a professional and courteous manner while on-site, addressing any questions or concerns related to the glass measurement process.
    • Provide recommendations and suggestions to customers when appropriate, based on best practices and their specific needs.
    • Communicate clearly with project managers, installers, and other team members regarding customer preferences and any special instructions.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Accurately document all measurements, site conditions, and project details in written or digital form, ensuring clarity and completeness for the next phase of the project.
    • Provide detailed sketches or diagrams when necessary, noting dimensions, glass types, framing styles, and other relevant factors.
    • Submit completed measurement reports and any required documentation to project management for review and approval.
  • Quality Assurance and Attention to Detail:
    • Ensure that all measurements are precise to prevent errors during the glass manufacturing and installation process.
    • Verify that the required glass types (tempered, laminated, insulated, etc.) and other materials are correctly specified for each project.
    • Identify potential issues such as misalignments, obstructions, or structural anomalies that may affect the installation process and communicate these to the team.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with project managers, designers, estimators, and installers to ensure seamless project execution from measurement to installation.
    • Relay any changes, delays, or concerns that may affect the timeline or scope of work to relevant parties in a timely manner.
    • Participate in team meetings or debriefings to review project status and address any challenges.
  • Adherence to Safety Protocols:
    • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols while on job sites, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.
    • Identify and report any safety hazards on-site, ensuring corrective action is taken immediately.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Maintain and care for tools and equipment used during measurement, including laser distance measurers, tape measures, levels, and other technical tools.
    • Ensure all equipment is calibrated, in good working condition, and properly stored when not in use.

  • Required Skills and Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in construction, architecture, or a related field is preferred.
    • Proven experience in a measurement or technical field, preferably within the glass, construction, or home improvement industries.
    • Strong knowledge of glass types, materials, and framing systems used in both residential and commercial environments.
    • Proficiency in using measurement tools and technology (e.g., laser measurers, tape measures, digital recording devices).
    • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a customer-service-oriented mindset.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Basic computer skills for documenting measurements and reporting.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required.
    • Ability to bend, kneel, and climb ladders as necessary to take measurements in various settings.
    • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and on job sites with different environments (e.g., construction zones, residential homes, commercial properties).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Previous experience in the glass, glazing, or construction industry.
    • Knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices related to glass installation.
    • Familiarity with CAD software or digital tools for drawing and measurements.
    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
