Summary of Role
Responsible for acting as the Category Consultant to McLane and their retailers, including buyers, category management team, providing category level support and analysis to Sales Partners, working both internally and externally to drive consistent topline/net sales growth/share targets. Assesses trends, analyzes data, and identifies key customer opportunities consistent with shopper and P&L strategies. Acts as the Category/Customer Expert in co-creating strategic business plans.
Collaboratively work with the McLane lab team to uncover insights and build action plans to drive profitable market share growth. McLane lab sessions are both in-person and virtual (estimated 50/50 split).
Responsibilities
  • Acts as the Category Expert to ensure the execution of the Strategic Business Plan to make topline sales plan, net sales goals and achieve sales share targets at McLane Retailers. This includes using tools and data to ensure the execution of the support strategic business plan.
  • Supports Category Management Department to ensure corporate objectives and distribution goals are met through tools such as, but not limited to, Circana (IRI), Circana Scan Panel, MSA, Numerator Insights (Data).
  • Synthesize actionable insights using retailer/distributor data, internal/syndicated data sources, and shopper insights.
  • Effectively penetrate internal and external stakeholders horizontally and vertically to align on category initiatives.
  • Perform line reviews and build planograms using JDA to support incremental category growth.
  • Perform and analyze routine reports on performance and distribution using tools such as Mekko PPT Charts, PowerBI (Consume Dashboards), Excel.
  • Create Category Management department efficiencies by improving tools used by the retail sales field.

Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree Required
Experience: Category Management and/or CPG Sales experience (3-4 years)
Skills:
  • Display a strong drive for results and excellent communication skills.
  • Display strong technical aptitude shown through data analysis capabilities.
  • Have a strong drive to continuously develop your analytic abilities and to learn how to leverage the best tools to support it.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Knowledge of consumer sales industry trends and working knowledge of the category management process.
