Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking a Maintenance Trainee to join our Plant Engineering team. This will be a developmental role with the opportunity for advancement into a maintenance position. This role is responsible for maintaining and supporting production equipment through corrective and preventive maintenance, equipment setup and changeovers, troubleshooting, and repairs. The Process Mechanic will work across multiple skill areas, including mechanical, electrical, fabrication, and plumbing, while contributing to continuous improvement and reliability of production processes.

  • Perform equipment setups and changeovers for production and supplemental process equipment.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment failures in a multi-skilled environment.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs and assist with troubleshooting electrical issues.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to Production teams.
  • Rebuild and refurbish equipment and components on a routine basis.
  • Modify equipment as needed to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Operate tools, vehicles, and computer systems required for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records in the MAXIMO Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Communicate effectively with team members, production personnel, and other departments regarding repair status, downtime, and maintenance activities.
  • Purchase and maintain required personal tools and keep work areas (toolbox, workbench, shop) clean and organized.
  • Perform responsibilities safely, using proper techniques, procedures, and appropriate PPE.
  • Ensure all work supports food safety, product purity, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Support team learning by teaching others, assisting teammates, and being open to learning from colleagues.
  • Work extended hours, different shifts, or additional days as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to McKee Foods' guiding values, policies, goals, and objectives.
  • Clear and consistent communication skills (oral, written, and electronic) with employees at all levels, as well as vendors and contractors.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to GMPs, with an emphasis on food safety and product purity.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical experience.
  • Functional computer proficiency, including use of PC-based systems.
  • Dependable work history with strong safety practices.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, overtime, or alternative shifts as needed.
  • Compliance with Corporate Risk Management requirements for company vehicle operation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with power tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments.
  • High initiative and self-motivation, requiring minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to continuous learning through company training, outside seminars, and technical courses (travel may be required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
  • Background in process maintenance or experience as a process operator.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and creating basic sketches or drawings of components.
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting skills.
  • Welding experience.
  • Proficiency with MAXIMO CMMS.
  • Licensed or ability to obtain licenses for LTO and scissor lift operation.
  • Technical school diploma, certification, or equivalent training in a related field.
