Job description

Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Employees receive benefits provided by the University System of Georgia, including, but not limited to, medical and major medical insurance, group life insurance, participation in the Georgia Teachers' Retirement System, Optional Retirement Plan (Faculty and exempt employees only), Social Security and Tuition Assistance Program after six months of employment.
Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
Summer Success Academy (SSA) is a six-week living learning experience for accepted freshmen at Albany State University. Students are enrolled in 7-9 hours of college credit while gaining classroom, networking, and college success skills. The program is supported by a team of student and staff counselors who perform various roles throughout the program's term.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
SSA Student Counselor:
SSA Student Counselors serve as embedded student leaders within the assigned residential hall during Summer Success Academy. Counselors facilitate programming to promote social integration, relationship-building, and appreciation for self-care. They provide support and access to student services and accompany students for off-campus experiential activities. They serve under the general supervision of the Summer Success Academy and Leadership Coordinator. Evening and weekend hours as necessary are required. Students work between 19-40 hours per week depending on their summer enrollment status.
Minimum qualifications:
Currently Enrolled Students:
Must be an enrolled student at Albany State University with at least a 2.75 GPA at the time of application, with no active student conduct violations, or any previous student conduct violations involving drugs, alcohol, or physical violence.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous student leadership experience and a working knowledge of campus resources.
SSA Staff Counselor:
SSA Staff Counselors support the Summer Success Academy Coordinator by providing evening and weekend supervision of student counselors and SSA participants. SSA Staff Counselors handle emergencies, communicate concerns and issues to the coordinator, work to resolve conflicts between participants, facilitate conflict resolution, mental health, empowerment, and self-management workshops, and train student counselors how to recognize crises and de-escalate conflict. They also monitor the residential hall and serve as chaperones for off-campus experiential activities. This is an evening and weekend part-time position.
Minimum qualifications:
Staff Counselors must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience working with college student populations.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in advising, mental health, social work, or first-year experience.
SSA Advising Support
SSA Advising Support is a part-time position assisting the Coordinator of Summer Success Academy with SSA registration for Summer, Fall, and Spring. This includes scheduling appointments, resolving transcript issues, reviewing DegreeWorks, discussing major options, and registering students for classes. Work is conducted in person, via phone, and virtually under the supervision of the Coordinator of Summer Success Academy. Evening and weekend work is required.
Minimum qualifications:
A bachelor's degree is required.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous advising experience.
