Position: Electrical Engineer Reports to: Technical Manager

FLSA: Exempt Hours: M-F; Days nights and weekends as needed Location: Pasadena, TX

Who we are: One of the largest producers of bulk synthetic grade granular ammonium sulfate in the world, all products are produced to consistent material specifications and reliable quality to exceed the industry standard.

Position Summary: The primary purpose of this Electrical Engineer position is to provide electrical engineering support for PCI Nitrogen's manufacturing facility in Pasadena, TX. This role reports to the Engineering Manager. Key responsibilities include supporting capital projects, assisting operations, and providing technical support to maintenance for inspections, repairs, and compliance at all Motor Control Centers and power substations. The Electrical Engineer will lead electrical engineering activities for capital projects, implement equipment and technology upgrades as needed, and support the Process Safety Management (PSM) program. The role also involves developing and leading electrical safety improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain electrical systems including power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and control panels.
  • Provide technical support for plant operations by troubleshooting electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues.
  • Support and maintain plant automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Ensure electrical systems comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and company safety policies).
  • Participate in process hazard analyses (PHA), management of change (MOC), and other safety programs.
  • Lead and support electrical reliability initiatives and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Electrical Engineering Lead for Capital Projects including writing E&I project scopes, marking up and approving E&I drawings, establishing and maintaining installation details and standards, providing E&I construction, check-out and start-up support for capital projects and annual shutdowns.
  • Design & Implementation:Support electrical control systems (Emerson DeltaV, PLCs, SCADA, HMI).
  • Troubleshooting & Support:Provide technical support for complex operational issues, perform root cause analysis, and resolve process deviations.
  • Optimization & Improvement:Analyze electrical and process data to identify opportunities for optimization, reduce manual interventions, and enhance performance metrics.
  • Project Management:Lead electrical engineer role for capital projects from concept through commissioning, including budgeting, scheduling, and vendor coordination.
  • Documentation & Compliance:Create and maintain electrical documents and ensure adherence to industry standards (OSHA, PSM).
  • Expert troubleshooting skills: the ability to analyze electrical safety and control issues and identify root causes to various operational issues.
  • Manage electrical equipment files and electrical drawing updates.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in chemical or petrochemical operations.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems including power distribution, motors, drives, and instrumentation.
  • Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
  • Familiarity with process control systems and industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, and OSHA regulations.
  • Experience supporting hazardous or classified areas (Class I, Div 1/Div 2) preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Regular exposure to chemical substances and lab equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including lab coats, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Standing, walking, and manual dexterity required for extended periods.
  • Occasionally required to lift containers up to 50 pounds.
