Job description
As a member of the eleven-person Executive Team, this individual will provide strategic input at the highest level. As Cincinnati Children's is actively expanding its regional, national and global presence, the SVP of Patient Services and CNE will embrace opportunities presented by this growth. As a key member of the Health Delivery Committee, this leader will influence clinical decision-making for the enterprise.
Key responsibilities of the SVP of Patient Services and CNE include:
Strategic Leadership of Nursing and Allied Health in a Growth Environment:
• Align the Patient Services strategy with enterprise goals and regional, national and international growth objectives, while contributing to the development of a global brand in pediatrics
• Articulate and execute a compelling vision for pediatric nursing transformation
• Advance interprofessional practice models across the continuum
• Contribute meaningfully to system-level strategy and governance
• Serve as a financial steward of the organization, while evaluating productivity measures and managing the departmental budget
Workforce Strategy and Culture:
• Lead recruitment, retention and engagement strategy across a large and complex team, while cultivating the workforce of the future
• Sustain strong employee engagement and experience
• Develop and implement new staffing models to align with the enterprise-level growth agenda, while strengthening partnerships and pipelines with the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and other key Schools of Nursing and Allied Health
Digital and Technology Transformation:
• Analyze and implement emerging digital tools, in partnership with the Chief Information Officer and others
• Oversee Epic optimization efforts across multiple care settings
• Champion the scale of virtual nursing programs, digital rounding and patient engagement tools
• Leverage technology to reduce documentation burden through data-driven redesign
Quality, Safety and Magnet Stewardship:
• Sustain Magnet status, including future designation and national exemplary distinction
• Drive continuous improvements in patient experience, safety and clinical outcomes across a multi-site enterprise
• Ensure accountability for measurable metrics tied to strategic initiatives, with close partnership with the Chief Operating Officer and operations leadership
• Have a deep understanding of relevant regulatory requirements
Institutional Leadership and Collaboration:
• Contribute as a member of the Cincinnati Children's Executive Team, shaping institutional strategy and fostering collaboration across clinical and business leadership
• Demonstrate commitment to the organization's mission, aligning relevant operational and financial strategies
• Serve as a core member of the Health Delivery Committee, influencing enterprise-level clinical decision-making
• Engage effectively in the community and represent Cincinnati Children's on advisory boards
Advancing Education and Research:
• Build world-class education and research capabilities in collaboration with academic partners
• Leverage clinical research and informatics to inform the evidence base for advancing clinical practice to drive better patient outcomes
• Support modern training and professional development opportunities for nurses and allied health professionals while forging key external University-based partnerships
The successful candidate must be a national and/or international leader in the field of pediatric nursing and patient services. They will possess a successful track record of administrative leadership experience, patient services team
leadership, strategic planning, and operational acumen. Importantly, this leader will be capable of exercising an institutional mindset with the ability to contribute and collaborate at the enterprise-level of this world-class, growing
pediatric health system, while advancing and fostering key external partnerships in the community.
In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we highlight the following:
Ideal Experience and Education
• A nurse executive with a master's degree in nursing required; doctoral degree (DNP or PhD) is preferred. Candidate must meet requirements for RN licensure in the state of Ohio.
• At least ten years of clinical nursing experience, with a highly credible, patient-focused reputation.
• At least seven years of relevant leadership experience in a multi-faceted health care system, pediatric health system, or multi-service provider setting.
• A pediatric nurse leader is preferred; alternatively, this leader must demonstrate the ability to connect with an advanced pediatric patient services workforce.
• Capable of serving as both a strategic and operational leader, possessing a record of accomplishments that demonstrate the ability to lead within a complex, growth-oriented organization.
• Successful experience leading quality, Magnet designation efforts, and strong patient outcomes through the development of patient services standards, policies and processes.
• Experience building a high-performing patient services leadership team and culture, with demonstrated success in succession-planning and leadership development.
• Established track record of developing and implementing innovative solutions to address the evolving needs of the nursing and allied health workforce.
• Demonstrated success as a collaborator, with a proven track record of building relationships with clinical and business stakeholders, while integrating patient services objectives with clinical, quality, operational and financial objectives.
• Experience leveraging technology and digital tools to enhance patient care and clinician experience.
• Business and financial acumen, including the ability to effectively utilize resources, budgets and staff across a complex system.
• Understanding of federal and state laws and related regulations, such as the National Committee for Quality Assurance and The Joint Commission.
• Strong communication and presentation skills required.
