Job description

    Department: Contracting / Paving Crew
    Schedule: Day or Night Shift | 8–14 hour shifts | Overtime Available
    Location: North Carolina Projects

    About the Role

    Sunrock is hiring an Asphalt Distributor Operator to operate and maintain an asphalt distributor truck used in road construction, paving, and heavy civil projects. This role is essential to the paving crew and involves spraying asphalt tack coat, seal coat, and liquid asphalt materials on highways, roadways, and construction sites.

    This is a hands-on, field-based CDL driving role for someone experienced in construction trucking, paving operations, or heavy equipment operation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Operate an asphalt distributor truck safely and efficiently
    • Apply liquid asphalt / tack coat / emulsion to road surfaces
    • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
    • Complete required DOT and company safety reports
    • Conduct basic truck maintenance (greasing, fluid checks, upkeep)
    • Follow OSHA, MSHA, and company safety standards
    • Support paving crew operations when distributor is not in use
    • Work outdoors in road construction environments

    Required Qualifications

    • Class B CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
    • Tanker Endorsement
    • HazMat Endorsement
    • Experience operating construction trucks or heavy equipment
    • Ability to work long shifts (8–14 hours)
    • Ability to work in outdoor construction environments

    Preferred Experience

    • Asphalt distributor operation
    • Road construction or paving crews
    • Seal coat / tack coat application
    • Heavy civil construction
    • Highway or DOT project work

    Physical & Work Environment

    This is a physically active construction job that includes:

    • Standing, climbing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs)
    • Working around heavy machinery
    • Exposure to weather, noise, dust, and vibration
