About Global Product and Design within Streaming and Games
Central to the mission of the Streaming and Games Team, the Global Product and Design group is responsible for the global streaming platform that supports all the video products our fans love. We plan, design and build for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of leading products and brands (Max, HBO Max, discovery+, Food Network, CNN, Golf TV, MotorTrend, Eurosport, and many more) and together with our cross-functional collaborators we operate as one company with one mission to be the premier media and entertainment leader globally.
About the Team
You will be joining the CNN growth team, which builds engaging experiences to create a direct relationship with our users. We work closely with product managers, data scientists, and product analysts to explore growth opportunities, generate hypotheses, and test features.
Our tech stack consists of JavaScript, Node, Python, Svelte, Sass, and AWS services. Your ability to be flexible and traverse the full stack will be an asset to us as we evaluate the tradeoffs inherent in software engineering and experimentation. We have fun with this everyday: balancing what our users are asking for, what our users actually do, our current technical strengths, and what new technologies are emerging and where we want to grow as a team. We hold the ability to choose (or invent) the right tool for the job in high regard and consider it a critical part of our success.
About the role
As a Manager, Software Development on CNN's Growth Team, you will make significant contributions creating features for registered users on one of the world's leading news and media platforms. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create secure, exciting, and performant experiences for users. We are looking for individuals who understand the importance of engineering in product discovery and execution, works harmoniously within a team, and is eager to learn and grow. The team is exploring new direct-to-consumer subscription products for CNN and building features and capabilities to grow our registered user audience. You will work closely with our partners in product, design, analytics and marketing to develop and test products and user experiences that drive customer acquisition and engagement throughout the user journey. The growth of CNN's digital business is a core element of WBD's long-term strategy, and you will be part of the team that is driving this digital revenue growth

  • Work primarily in modern JavaScript, maintaining and developing components
  • Optimize code for performance and scalability
  • Contribute to the code & architecture reviews and champion best practices for the organization by defining and evolving engineering standards
  • Strong inter-team and cross-team communication
  • Follow a progressive development methodology, moving from proofs of concept to prototypes to production releases
  • Work closely with designers to implement user interfaces that are both functional and visually appealing.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsiveness of the application.
  • Develop and maintain server-side logic using relevant back-end technologies.
  • Integrate front-end elements with server-side logic seamlessly.
  • Design and implement APIs for data exchange between client and server.
  • Experience integrating 3rd party libraries

Skills / Experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with other developers on a production system
  • 5+ years of experience with JavaScript, including ES6/7 and asynchronous JavaScript.
  • Experience with performance monitoring and analytics tools like Datadog, New Relic, or similar.
  • Ability to review group or company level priorities (such as OKRs) breaking down problems into meaningful tasks and solutions working with peers within the team cross-functionally across the organization.
  • Deep industry experience with modern development technologies, and hands-on familiarity with both client and server technology. Have a solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms
  • You understand the constraints of working with a growing team and thrive in an environment that is fast paced.
