Job description

Overview

Job Title: Senior Program Manager, Training and Development

Department: Operational Excellence

Reports to: Sr. Director, Business Development

Compensation: $125,000.00 to $150,000  20% bonus potential 

POSITION SUMMARY

Owns the end-to-end strategy and execution of technician learning programs for back-of-house and entry-level technician populations across Sun Auto Tire & Service locations. This role defines skill standards, builds scalable curricula and learning paths, and drives measurable improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience. The Senior Program Manager partners with Store Operations, field leaders, and the Talent Development team to identify skill gaps, deploy blended learning (in-person, virtual, and on-the-job), and continuously improve programs using performance data and learner feedback.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, rollout, and ongoing governance of technician training programs for back-of-house and entry-level technicians, including onboarding, core skills, and progression pathways. 
  • Establish technician skill standards and competency models in partnership with subject matter experts and operations leaders; translate standards into course objectives, job aids, and assessments. 
  • Build scalable curricula and learning paths using blended delivery (in-person, virtual, and on-the-job) and ensure materials are standardized, up to date, and easy for field teams to adopt. 
  • Define program goals, success metrics, and reporting cadence; evaluate effectiveness through assessments, observations, operational KPIs, and feedback, and drive continuous improvement. 
  • Conduct skills-gap analysis using performance data, manager input, and field observations; prioritize the training roadmap based on business impact and technician readiness needs. 
  • Develop role-based development plans and progression guidance (e.g., entry-level to advanced) and enable field leaders to coach to the standards. 
  • Coach and support trainers, supervisors, and technicians; facilitate train-the-trainer sessions and reinforce consistent execution of training in the field. 
  • Manage program documentation and training records (attendance, completion, assessments); maintain version control for materials and communicate updates and expectations to stakeholders. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required 

  • 7+ years of experience in learning & development, training program management, or field enablement for technical/operations audiences; multi-site environments strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to define skill standards and design curriculum, job aids, and assessments; comfortable partnering with subject matter experts to translate complex tasks into teachable steps. 
  • Strong program management and stakeholder management skills, including roadmap planning, prioritization, change management, and clear executive-ready communication. 
  • Experience measuring training impact using learning analytics and operational performance metrics; able to create dashboards/insights and drive improvements based on data and feedback. 
  • Ability to facilitate training and workshops with technicians and leaders; willing and able to travel up to 25% as needed to support field implementation. 

Preferred 

  • Automotive service/repair experience (technician, shop foreman, service manager, or technical trainer) and familiarity with common diagnostic and repair workflows. 
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and eLearning authoring tools; able to manage content lifecycle and versioning. 
  • ASE certifications and/or training/OD credentials (e.g., CPTD, ATD, or similar). 
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Development, Business, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exposure to moderate to loud noises, dust, exhaust fumes, lubricants, petroleum products, vapors, and caustic materials 
  • Temperature variations including extreme heat and/or extreme cold 
  • Stand up to eight hours per day; walk to access various areas of the building 
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and crouchregularly;full range of motion with arms and hands 
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 70 poundsfrequently 
  • Vision sufficient to detect color, depth, and re-focus 
  • Use of safety goggles or other PPE asrequired
