What is a remote LCSW internship?

A remote LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) internship is a supervised training program for social work students or recent graduates who are working towards their clinical licensure, but it is conducted online rather than in person. Interns provide counseling, case management, and support services to clients through secure video conferencing or phone calls, under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker. This format offers flexibility and access to a wider range of clients and settings, while still fulfilling the requirements for licensure. Remote LCSW internships are increasingly popular due to advancements in telehealth and the need for accessible mental health services.

How does supervision and support typically work for remote LCSW interns?

Remote LCSW interns usually receive supervision through scheduled video or phone meetings with a licensed clinical social worker. These sessions provide guidance on case management, ethics, and clinical interventions, helping interns navigate challenges unique to remote work, such as building rapport with clients virtually. Interns are also encouraged to participate in online team meetings or case consultations, which foster collaboration and ongoing learning. Clear communication and proactive outreach are essential to make the most of remote supervision and professional development opportunities.
