A Brief Overview
The Laboratory Supervisor oversees daily operations and quality activities within the laboratory. This role supports efficient workflow by ensuring adequate staffing coverage, assisting with candidate selection, and providing operational support. The supervisor also partners with lab management in evaluating team performance.The supervisor supports quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous performance improvement. This role monitors staff training, competency, and proficiency testing; maintains established procedures; ensures clinical correlation of results; and upholds departmental standards for safety and productivity.
What you will do
  • Supervise day to day operations; responsible for scheduling/staffing support, coaching, training, counseling, performance evaluation input, competencies, and performance monitoring. This position also performs bench-level technical duties as needed.
  • Resolve technical problems and ensures corrective actions are taken whenever systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Provide assistance with technical problem solving and back-up bench performance as necessary for efficient lab function.
  • Provide support functions to the laboratory team including participation in recruitment, coordinating interview activities, schedule coverage support, retention efforts; timely and accurate payroll submission support.
  • Support equipment maintenance and acts as a resource in troubleshooting technical and equipment operations.
  • Support POC testing to include maintaining middleware access, reviewing data, trending, troubleshooting, and serves as a resource for ambulatory POC locations.
  • Participate in departmental process improvement, supports planning for future needs, and helps ensure the department operates within established budget guidelines.
  • Review quality data and proficiency testing results while building clinical and technical expertise in laboratory assays. Maintains the proficiency survey program, submits data, reviews evaluation summaries, investigates unacceptable results, and corrects questionable findings with appropriate documentation and follow-up.
  • Maintain document control system and supports senior technologist completion of annual review and updates.
  • Follow established policies regarding proper documentation of critical values, reagent lot numbers, and other quality assurance data.
  • Demonstrate leadership, promote teamwork, and foster accountability. Ensure operations comply with applicable laws, policies, and regulatory standards while supporting customer satisfaction through adherence to quality and safety requirements.

Education Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Required or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or Clinical Laboratory Science (MT/MLS/CLS) Required or
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant laboratory experience, including comparable military training or HEW qualification. Must meet all requirements for testing personnel under CLIA '88 Required

Experience Qualifications
  • 2 years of progressive lab leadership Preferred
