The Career Coach provides job-readiness training to individuals with disabilities, focusing on the foundational skills needed to obtain and maintain employment in the community. This includes delivering pre-employment and on-the-job training to participants through one-on-one coaching and small group instruction, including services provided through the Transitions to Work Program.
This program offers career seekers ages 16โ35 hands-on internship opportunities with employer partners such as Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Brockton Hospital, and NewBridge on the Charles. The Career Coach prepares participants for these internships, provides ongoing support throughout the experience, and delivers individualized coaching to support job placement, retention, and career advancement. In addition, the Career Coach trains and advises employer partners on effective strategies for working with individuals with disabilities, develops strong job leads, and provides job placement assistance.
This role requires the ability to initiate and sustain collaborative relationships with businesses across the Greater Boston and Greater Brockton areas, a strong understanding ofโor commitment to learning aboutโbarriers to employment, and active participation as part of a larger JVS team supporting employment, training, and education services both in person and virtually.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Accountability and Results Focused
ยท Assist participants in both one-on-one and group settings in job search-related activities
ยท As needed, escort participants to job interviews and facilitate interview and hiring process
ยท Provide post-placement services including follow-up with jobseeker and employer
ยท Develop curricula and provide trainings and classroom instruction on essential skills needed to enhance employability
ยท Scheduling flexibility in order to meet clientโs career searching or in person job coaching needs
ยท Use strategic, structured, and systematic intervention techniques (IE: Task Analysis) to assist the participants in learning to perform job tasks to employer specifications
Build relationships, collaboration and teamwork
ยท Actively develop new and maintain existing employer relationships
ยท Develop a solid understanding of the employerโs needs and the specific job tasks
ยท Communicate and collaborate with clientsโ families and support staff
ยท Developing a strong understanding of other departments at JVS and becoming a key contributor to the organizationโs mission
Administrative/Communication
ยท Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness
ยท Monitor, assess, and document client progress
ยท Organize and maintain files and records
ยท Perform other duties as assigned or requested
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
ยท 1-3 years of experience in workforce development or related field desired
ยท 1-3 years of experience in working with individuals with barriers to employment desired
ยท Associate or bachelorโs degree in human services or another related field (desirable)
ยท A deep commitment to disability inclusion in the workforce required
ยท An understanding of job development and job placement desired
ยท Flexibility with in-person services and local travel required
ยท Ability to work effectively with staff and clients from diverse cultural, socio-economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds is required
ยท Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required
ยท Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are required
ยท Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required
ยท Knowledge of virtual meeting platforms preferred
ยท Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole language highly preferred
ยท Knowledge of community resources and web-based resources preferred
ยท Knowledge of the disability rights movement and/or self-advocacy movements desired
