Occupational Therapist

Alliance Health is looking an OT (NOT A COTA ) with a focus on Speech, to join our busy rehab department at Navigator Homes, on Martha's Vinyard. Our short term units are very busy and we provide exceptional care with very positive outcomes for our residents.

Must have an active MA OT license to be considered for this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Occupational Therapist

PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION

Responsible for the provision of program services to patients, residents and clients. In conjunction with Corporate Management, establishes and meets budgetary standards for Program Performance.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Directly responsible to the program director. Provides direct patient care services. May provide direct supervision to physical therapy assistants and or student interns.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

(With our Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

· Work is performed in the Rehabilitation Department and on patient care units. Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, anti-neoplastic pharmaceuticals and other materials and substances that may be used in patient care or on the patient care unit.

· Light to moderate overnight travel may be required for attendance at Corporate meetings, training, etc.

· Occasional physical effort with medium to heavy objects. Transferring patients weighing between 100 to 250 lbs. is occasionally required.

· Standing and walking for significant amounts of time is necessary.

· Excellent hearing and verbal skills required for directing staff, customer relations and marketing activities.

· Manual dexterity required for documentation needs, for manipulation of equipment, for computer use and for direct patient care.

· Excellent visual skills required for patient assessment, documentation and report analysis.

· Requires intense attention and concentration.

· Ability to cope with periodic stress associated with changing census and staffing demands.

· Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage time effectively for self and others.

· Ability to deal with a wide range of personality types, ages and diverse cultural backgrounds.

· Ability to articulate and comprehend the English language.

· Bi-lingual skills may be required for certain client facilities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree, as required for initial professional preparation, in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology or other clinical professional services.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

· Current licensure by the Massachusetts’ Board of Allied Health Professions required. Current membership in professional organizations at the state and national level preferred.

· Two to four years of clinical outpatient experience preferred.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to function effectively in multi-faceted systems and to interact effectively with all levels of staff and customers.

· Must be knowledgeable in the HIPPA Privacy Rule and ensure all staff comply with policies and procedures.

· Strong oral and written communication skills.

· Strong organizational and analytical skills.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Ensures that the quality and appropriateness of patient care meets or exceeds company and industry standards and ensures that all Rehab services are in compliance with state and federal legal, regulatory, accreditation and reimbursement guidelines.

· Directs and assesses the scheduling of patients/residents for therapy services considering available treatment hours, staff resources and overall plan of care.

· Participates in team meetings to formulate treatment plans, discuss progress and discharge planning, regularly attends family/care giver conferences.

· Documentation practices for clarity, conciseness and consistency with patient outcome goals and payor expectations.

· Monitors and manages efficient utilization of therapy services by discipline according to diagnostic and functional groupings. Ensures that optimal level of rehab services is provided to meet clinical needs of patients/residents.

· Maintains a clinical caseload as needed. Under a physician’s order, provides direct treatment in accordance with an established plan of care. Treatment venue includes individual, supervised and group.

· Demonstrates a good working knowledge of Medicare and other reimbursement regulators.

· Actively promotes optimum employee relations and communication.

· Models appropriate professional behavior and acts as a mentor to program staff.

· Exhibits follow through with communicating new policies, programs, procedures, etc., to program staff.

· Ensures ongoing communication with program director in order to keep them informed of key issues and program development opportunities.

· Routinely identifies and coordinates marketing and census development activities.

· Coordinates education activities for referral sources and participates in pre-screening functions in order to ensure appropriate referrals according to level of care and program specialization.

· Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to change, patient needs and customer expectations, meets company standards relating to deadlines and attendance.

· Establishes and maintains exemplary standards for department appearance and staff presentment; ensures compliance with company and facility policies and procedures.

· Responsible for all safety and risk management protocols and programs.

· Monitors and reports on the quality and effectiveness of Rehab services; monitors customer satisfaction and responds to complaints/concerns. Turns expressed complaints or concerns into solutions to existing problems.

· Responsible for service and operational excellence of all assigned activities to ensure the delivery of quality services and/or outcomes required to meet or exceed the expectations of those utilizing or impacted by the department.

· Exhibits courtesy, compassion and respect to patients, families, visitors, physicians, administrators and co-workers.

CORPORATE COMPLIANCE

· Fully complies with all federal and state laws and standards of ethical and professional conduct applicable to their position.

· Knowledge about laws and regulations relating to job responsibilities, e.g., EEO, OSHA, patient rights, fraud/abuse laws.

· Is consistently truthful and accurate in all written and verbal communications.

· Demonstrates adherence to employee code of ethics and conduct. (Refer to personnel policies)

· Exhibits ethical/moral responsibility in problem resolution and decision making.

· Required documentation/record keeping is accurate, complete and timely.
