CityVet Externship Program

CityVet is now accepting applications for its Veterinarian Externship Program, offering third- and fourth-year DVM students the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience in a veterinarian-led practice environment.

This program is designed for students seeking meaningful mentorship, real-world clinical exposure, and insight into practice models centered on autonomy, collaboration, and long-term career growth.


Program Overview

CityVet externships provide a structured yet flexible clinical experience in small animal general practice settings, with many locations also offering urgent care exposure.

  • Eligibility: 3rd and 4th-year DVM students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools
  • Duration: Two-week externship blocks, with flexibility to accommodate university rotation requirements
  • Stipend: Competitive stipend, paid via direct deposit on the first Friday of the rotation
  • Locations: CityVet clinics available across multiple states
  • Housing: Housing is not provided; however, CityVet can share accommodation recommendations from prior externs
  • International students: Eligible if enrolled at an AVMA-accredited university and authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.

What to Expect

Externs work alongside experienced veterinary teams and receive hands-on exposure that may include:

  • Small animal general practice medicine and surgery
  • Client communication and case management
  • Collaboration with technicians and support staff
