Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - include the following:

  1. Regular predictable attendance with the ability to be flex schedule when needed, including non-standard working hours (ex. nights and weekends)
  2. Carbon Neutrality Strategy & Execution
    1. Develop, implement, and monitor the company’s carbon neutrality roadmap aligned with corporate goals and industry standards (e.g., SBTi).
    2. Identify and evaluate decarbonization opportunities, including energy efficiency projects, renewable energy sourcing, and process optimization.
    3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, engineering, finance) to integrate carbon reduction strategies into business planning.
  3. Influence Capital Funding
    1. Develop business cases for carbon and sustainability-related capital projects, including ROI, payback, and environmental impact assessments.
    2. Partner with finance and operations teams to secure funding and track execution of approved sustainability investments.
    3. Provide data-driven recommendations to executive leadership to prioritize initiatives with the highest environmental and financial value.
  4. Environmental Reporting & Performance Tracking
    1. Compile, analyze, and report environmental performance metrics (e.g., GHG emissions, energy use, water consumption, waste reduction).
    2. Lead the preparation of corporate environmental disclosures (CDP, ESG reports, customer scorecards) and respond to customer and regulatory inquiries.
    3. Ensure transparency and accuracy in all sustainability reporting to meet regulatory, customer, and internal audit requirements.
  5. IMDS & CBAM Compliance
    1. Oversee maintenance and submission of product material declarations through the International Material Data System (IMDS) to meet automotive industry requirements.
    2. Coordinate CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) data collection and reporting to comply with EU regulations and support international trade.
    3. Work closely with product engineering and supply chain teams to collect accurate materials and emissions data.
  6. Leadership Influence & Advocacy
    1. Serve as a subject matter expert to executive leadership, providing guidance on sustainability trends, risks, and opportunities.
    2. Prepare and deliver presentations to senior leaders to communicate progress, recommend initiatives, and support policy or strategic changes.
    3. Foster a culture of environmental responsibility throughout the organization by training and engaging stakeholders.
  7. Strong analytical and data interpretation skills; ability to translate technical data into clear, actionable insights.
  8. Proven ability to build business cases and influence capital allocation decisions.
  9. Effective communicator, comfortable presenting to executive audiences and engaging cross-functional teams.
  10. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and emerging global sustainability standards.
  11. Project management skills, with ability to lead multiple initiatives concurrently.
  12. Help other departments as necessary. Provide guidance on sustainability requirements, process and procedures.
  13. Creates company and departmental goals to support company sustainability targets. Creates performance reports, presentations and countermeasures to corporate leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 7+ years of experience in sustainability, environmental compliance, or related roles preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with GHG accounting standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14064) and carbon footprinting is preferred. Strong familiarity with IMDS, CBAM, and other automotive or industrial environmental reporting systems

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Fluent in English. Japanese as a second language is helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
