Overview
WakeMed Physician Practices, a premier multi-specialty medical group with more than 500 physicians, NP/PA across a broad range of specialties, is seeking a Board-Eligible/Board-Certified Hematology & Medical Oncology physician with a clinical focus in Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology to join our rapidly growing cancer program in Raleigh, North Carolina.
WakeMed is committed to delivering state-of-the-art, compassionate, patient-centered cancer care. As part of our expanding oncology service line, you will join a collaborative, collegial team of 8 physicians and 14 NP/PA professionals, working within a system that emphasizes quality, multidisciplinary integration, and innovation.
Position Highlights
We are seeking a clinically excellent, team-oriented GI medical oncologist who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and works closely with: Surgical oncology, Colorectal surgery, Hepatobiliary surgeons, Gastroenterologists, Radiation oncology, Radiology and pathology, Genetic counseling
Clinical Environment & Program Strengths
WakeMed offers a comprehensive GI oncology program with exceptional multidisciplinary support, including:
  • A strong referral base from WakeMed-employed and independent GI providers, including 8 employed gastroenterologists and multiple aligned private GI groups
  • A breadth of surgical support: trauma/emergency general surgery, colorectal, breast, thoracic, minimally invasive, bariatric surgery, and two surgical oncologists
  • A fellowship-trained GI pathologist on-site, who actively participates in our weekly GI tumor board and supports high-quality, specialized diagnostic services
  • A weekly GI tumor board attended by surgeons, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, genetic counselors, and radiation oncologists
  • A high-volume interventional and nuclear radiology program, including radiotheranostics available on-site
  • Access to advanced endoscopy, hepatobiliary interventions, and emerging minimally invasive technologies

Our oncology service line is expanding its research footprint, with a growing portfolio of oncology clinical trials, including GI-focused studies. Research experience is preferred but not required.
Additional opportunities include:
  • Teaching medical students and WakeMed Internal Medicine residents
  • Leading initiatives to expand access to high-quality cancer care across the Triangle

Schedule: Full-time, approximately 40 hours/week (36 clinical + 4 administrative).
H1B sponsorship potential for well-qualified, candidates with 5+ years of clinical practice experience
