Generator Install Technician

We are seeking an experienced Generator Installation Technician to join our growing Generator Division. This position is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in gas piping, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical installation, or generator installation who wants to build a long-term career with an established electrical contractor. While generator experience is beneficial, it is not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who possesses strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with natural gas or LP gas systems, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

The Big Tasks of a Generator Install Technician

Perform installation, startup, and testing of residential and light commercial standby generator systems while ensuring consistent, high-quality execution on every job. Install, modify, and test natural gas and LP gas piping systems required for generator installations while maintaining a safe and professional job site. Manage daily workflow using ServiceTitan for documentation, invoicing, and time tracking. Collaborate with the Generator Department Manager, Project Coordinator, and electrical team to complete projects efficiently while delivering an exceptional customer experience.


Key Sub Tasks for the Generator InstallTechnician Role

  • Install residential and light commercial standby generator systems
  • Install, modify, test, and troubleshoot natural gas and LP gas piping systems
  • Assist with generator startup, commissioning, and system testing
  • Troubleshoot generator systems including engine, fuel, and electrical components
  • Document all work performed, notes, and time tracking in ServiceTitan
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding installation progress and service recommendations
  • Maintain truck inventory and request restock materials as needed
  • Coordinate with management on scheduling issues or field challenges
  • Complete vehicle inspections and maintain equipment readiness
  • Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards
  • Perform generator maintenance and service as needed
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule as the role progresses


Desired Skills and Experience

Previous generator installation experience is beneficial but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who possesses strong mechanical aptitude and relevant trade experience. Candidates with experience installing, troubleshooting, or testing natural gas and LP gas systems are especially encouraged to apply.


Ideal candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Natural gas or LP gas piping installation
  • Troubleshooting and testing gas systems
  • HVAC installation, service, or maintenance
  • Plumbing installation and repair
  • Water heater installation involving natural gas or LP gas systems
  • Residential or light commercial construction
  • Mechanical installation or field service work

Candidates who have worked as HVAC Install Helpers, Plumbing Helpers, Mechanical Installers, Generator Install Helpers, or similar field-based roles and have developed hands-on gas piping experience are encouraged to apply.


Additional qualifications include:

  • Ability to work safely with hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills and customer-first mindset
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements

The following experience is not required but is highly desirable and will help candidates transition quickly into the role:

  • Generator installation and service experience

  • Experience with Generac, Kohler, Cummins, or Briggs & Stratton generators
