Job description

Summary Join the Parks & Recreation Family. We offer so many perks working for the City: great experience, flexible hours, FREE access to Frances Meadows Aquatic Center - including the Fitness Center and Splash Zone, DISCOUNTS on concessions, programs, and rentals, and so much more. ***** Head Lifeguards provide support for the lifeguards in day to day operations.

The Head Lifeguard is a mix of traveling lifeguard and staff supervisor. The Head Lifeguard will provide assistance where needed and be a liaison to management. The Head Lifeguard should exemplify responsibility, leadership, friendly public relations/ customer service, and be a voice for the lifeguard staff.

Job Duties Staff supervision of lifeguards when Aquatics Manager is not present in facility. Rotating guards, scheduling breaks and determining hours when appropriate based on pool usage and the need for additional guards. Oversee incident/accident reports, water contamination reports, and water rescue reports.

Assist Aquatics Manager in conducting monthly staff in-service trainings. Monitor first-aid supplies and notify Aquatics Manager when inventory is getting low. Oversee Aquatic instructional programming.

Know and understand water safety and swimming skill levels and the skills that are taught. Work effectively with other lifeguards / instructors and take turns with various responsibilities. Learn and implement the proper procedures with equipment and for opening and closing facility.

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintain constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness. Responds to emergency situations in accordance with the facilities EAP.

Has thorough understanding of the Emergency Action Plan for the facility. Maintains records of pool chemical readings every two hours. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of the pool and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.

Checks pool and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems to Aquatics Manager. Assist Aquatics Manager and Staff as needed. Perform other related aquatic work as needed.

Interpret and enforce pool rules and policies to ensure all staff is giving proper direction. Minimum Qualifications Qualifications: Managerial or supervisory experience. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard / First Aid / CPR / AED Certification.

Excellent customer service skills. Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.

Ability to communicate in both one on one and group settings. Must be able to meet work schedule and in-service training attendance standards (May-August). Be at least 18 years old and possess at least 12 weeks of lifeguard experience.

Desired: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification and experience lifeguarding at a pool or waterpark. Licenses and Certifications: Hold and maintain current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, and AED certification. Physical Requirements: Must maintain physical skills as required by Lifeguard Certification.

Ability to frequently walk, run, stand, or stoop. Regularly lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Speech, hearing, literacy, and vision.

Ability to tolerate extreme weather conditions. Supplemental Information This position is classified as safety-sensitive. Incumbent will be subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
