What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an FPGEC Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an FPGEC Intern, you need a solid understanding of pharmacy practice, medication safety, and U.S. pharmacy law, typically evidenced by a foreign pharmacy degree and passing the FPGEE and TOEFL exams. Familiarity with pharmacy management systems, automated dispensing tools, and relevant U.S. pharmacy software is important. Attention to detail, adaptability, and strong communication skills are vital for effective patient counseling and collaboration with healthcare teams. These competencies ensure safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations while supporting your transition to licensure in the U.S.

What are FPGEC Interns?

FPGEC Interns are pharmacy graduates from foreign countries who are participating in an internship as part of the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certification process. This internship allows them to gain practical experience in a U.S. pharmacy setting, which is required before they can become licensed pharmacists in the United States. The FPGEC program evaluates their education and ensures they meet U.S. pharmacy standards. Interns typically work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist while completing a required number of internship hours. Successfully completing the FPGEC requirements is a key step toward obtaining a pharmacist license in the U.S.
