Job Description

The Assistant Football Registered Dietitian serves as a key clinical and performance nutrition leader for the football program. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive sports nutrition services, integrating evidence-based clinical care with performance nutrition strategies to optimize student-athlete health, recovery and performance. Working collaboratively with sports medicine, strength & conditioning, sport analytics, athletic training, and the coaching staff. This position provides advanced medical nutrition therapy, leads nutrition education initiatives, and contributes to the strategic direction of football nutrition operations. This position is expected to operate with a high level of autonomy in clinical decision-making and daily nutrition operations for the football program.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Assist and collaborate with the Director of Nutrition / Football with all football nutrition related tasks including team education and individual counseling, supervising performance center meals, on field hydration & fueling, and travel nutrition.
Oversee operations of the football Fuel Bar, including staffing, inventory systems, and fueling strategies to support performance goals.
Assist in management of team nutritional needs including pre-competition meals, hydration, catering, recovery, supplementation, individual counseling, team talks, Bod Pods, etc.
Lead planning and execution of team travel nutrition, including menu coordination, logistics, and fueling strategies for away competitions.
Provide consistent communication with coaching staff, Sports Medicine staff, Strength & Conditioning staff, Sports Psychology staff, and administration regarding sports nutrition related issues.
Participate in Recruiting Initiatives Including parent presentations, recruit 1 on 1s, etc.
Provide comprehensive nutrition assessment and medical nutrition therapy for student-athletes, utilizing evidence-based practices and techniques such as disordered eating, diabetes, hypertension, GI issues, bone mineral disturbances, anemia, food allergies and intolerances, etc.
Provide comprehensive nutrition assessment and medical nutrition therapy for student-athletes, utilizing evidence-based practices and techniques for athletic performance, recovery from training/competition, recovery from injury and illness, weight management, hydration and supplementation.
Serve as a clinical nutrition resource for sports medicine staff in the management of nutrition-related medical conditions.
Conduct body composition assessments and analysis using the Bod Pod.
Assist in updating and facilitating all nutrition related protocols and procedures.
Assist as an integral part of the nutrition department with the Student Athlete Performance Center operations - oversee meals, menu development for the new state-of-the-art facility, collaborate with Executive Chef and Sodexo staff, athlete education, etc.
Contribute to departmental strategic planning and performance initiatives.
Mentor and lead student interns, dietetic interns, and assist in training developing dietitians.
Manage ordering, inventory, and procurement of food products and supplies for the Football Fuel Bar.
Create and deliver nutrition education materials.
Develop social media material to serve the student athlete population as a consistent and credible source of nutrition education and information.
Develop, coordinate, and execute grocery store tours and cooking demos.
Assist in precepting Dietetic Interns during their community/elective rotation. Work in conjunction with VT's Human Nutrition, Food and Exercise department.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or completion of DPD credits
Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential required
Sports Nutrition Experience
Ability to work a non-standard work week
Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Nutrition or a Nutrition Related Degree
Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) (preferred)
Experience with high-performance or NCAA Division 1 Football
