What is flexible design?

Flexible design refers to the approach of creating products, buildings, or systems that can easily adapt to changing needs, uses, or conditions over time. This design philosophy aims to enhance usability, adaptability, and longevity, reducing the need for constant redesign or replacement. In architecture, for example, flexible design might involve movable walls or multipurpose spaces. In product development, it could mean modular components that can be reconfigured. Flexible design is especially valued in rapidly changing environments where requirements may evolve.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flexible Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flexible Designer, you need strong skills in design principles, adaptability across mediums, and a portfolio showcasing diverse projects, typically supported by a degree in graphic design or related fields. Proficiency with industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and knowledge of responsive design systems is essential. Excellent communication, creativity, and problem-solving abilities help you collaborate with stakeholders and innovate under changing requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering effective, user-centered designs in dynamic and evolving environments.

How does a Flexible Design professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

A Flexible Design professional often works closely with cross-functional teams, such as product managers, engineers, and marketers, to ensure that design solutions align with both user needs and business objectives. Collaboration usually involves participating in brainstorming sessions, sharing design prototypes, and adapting feedback from different stakeholders to refine visual or functional elements. Regular communication and agile workflows are key, as priorities may shift and require quick adjustments. This collaborative environment not only fosters creativity but also helps Flexible Design professionals stay responsive to evolving project requirements.

Job description

Brand & Marketing Designer
Location: San Francisco / Remote
Company: Guild.ai
About Guild
Guild is the control plane for AI agents - a platform to build, deploy, govern, and share agents in production. As AI moves from experimentation to real systems, we're building the infrastructure layer that makes it safe, observable, and scalable.
The Role
We're looking for a Brand and Marketing Designer to define how Guild shows up in the world.
This isn't a narrow brand or visual design role. You'll own design across every marketing surface, from our website and product storytelling to campaigns, lifecycle, and growth. You'll work closely with founders, product, and engineering to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives.
This is also an AI-first design role. You'll use AI tools as part of your core workflow, for ideation, iteration, content generation, and scaling creative output. We expect you to push how design gets done, not just what gets designed.
What You'll Do
Website & Product Storytelling
  • Own the design and evolution of guild.ai
  • Translate product capabilities into clear, high-conversion pages
  • Design landing pages, flows, and interactive elements that explain complex systems simply
  • Continuously iterate based on user behavior and conversion data

Campaigns & Growth
  • Design assets for launches, announcements, and campaigns
  • Create high-performing visuals for paid and organic channels (LinkedIn, X, email, etc.)
  • Partner on messaging and positioning to ensure consistency across touchpoints
  • Rapidly prototype and ship creative for experiments

Lifecycle & CRM
  • Design email and lifecycle experiences (onboarding, activation, retention)
  • Build scalable templates and systems across CRM tools (e.g. HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Improve conversion and engagement across the funnel through design

AI-First Creative Workflow
  • Use AI tools (image, video, copy, prototyping) to accelerate design and exploration
  • Develop repeatable systems for generating and iterating on creative at scale
  • Experiment with new tools and workflows that push speed and quality
  • Help define how AI-native marketing teams operate

Brand & Systems
  • Evolve Guild's visual identity across all surfaces
  • Build and maintain a flexible design system for marketing and growth
  • Ensure consistency across web, product, and communications

Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Based with the marketing team, you'll work closely with product and engineering to align marketing and product experiences
  • Contribute to how Guild explains a new category (the control plane for agents)
  • Help shape narrative, not just visuals
What We're Looking For
  • 8+ years of experience in marketing, product marketing, or growth design
  • Strong portfolio across web, brand, and campaign work
  • Experience designing for technical or developer-focused products
  • Clear evidence of using AI tools in your design process
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts into clear visual storytelling
  • Experience with modern web tools (Figma, Webflow/Framer, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CRM and lifecycle tools (HubSpot, Salesforce, Customer.io, etc.)
  • Strong taste, high velocity, and attention to detail
Bonus
  • Experience in AI, developer tools, or infrastructure products
  • Motion, interaction, or 3D design experience
  • Experience working on early-stage or category-defining products
Why Guild
  • Define the visual identity of a new category in AI
  • Work directly with founders on core narrative and product
  • High ownership, fast pace, real impact
