Job description

Summary / objective of position:
Interns / co-ops will be exposed to a wide array of financial planning/advisory services that Johnson Investment Counsel, Inc. offers and exposure to investment research through client driven projects. Interns / co-ops will be working an in-person M-F 8:30-5:00 p.m. format with their respective Co-Op management teams.
Essential functions of position:
Gathering and analyzing financial information on clients from our Portfolio Managers, Associate Portfolio Managers, Portfolio Manager Assistants and others working on projects related to:
  • Investment management / research
  • Retirement planning
  • Tax planning
  • Cash flow analysis
  • Insurance planning / policy review
  • Estate planning
  • Charitable gifting
  • System Conversions
Work in state-of-the-art portfolio management, financial planning, portfolio analysis/reporting and investment research software systems. Analyze data and build customized reports within MS Excel.
Interface with third-party custodian to find relevant information or assist with client-related tasks
Assembling of Your Wealth Review materials and additional prospect and client meeting preparation projects
Research and make recommendations on various investment account types / plans such as taxable accounts (individual, joint, Trusts), IRAs (Roth and Traditional), employer-sponsored retirement plans (401(k), 403(b), 457 plans), 529 college savings plans and more.

Assist Portfolio Manager in execution of client investment strategies
Depending on depth of knowledge and ability there could be exposure and projects in both our fixed income and equity research areas.
Preferred education and experience
  • Working on a degree in Finance/ Accounting/Economics
  • Demonstrated interest in investments the markets and economy
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products specifically in Excel
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrates initiative
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidentiality of client sensitive information
