Position Summary
Fire Protection (Senior Engineer) will be based at the project site and will oversee the end-to-end execution of fire protection systems from installation through testing, commissioning, and handover. The role covers supervision of hydrant networks, standpipes, fire pumps and controllers, Sprinkler System, Deluge Water Spray System, clean agent and gaseous suppression systems, foam systems where applicable, fire water storage and distribution, fire alarm and detection, and interfaces to BMS/SCADA. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring installation progress, verifying workmanship and material compliance, ensuring routing and head spacing follow approved plans, and confirming equipment and devices are installed in accordance with manufacturer instructions, submittals, and project specifications.
Responsibilities
This position requires close coordination with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical teams to maintain code-compliant clearances, seismic bracing requirements, access for maintenance, and proper penetrations with firestopping. The engineer will review and validate shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, method statements, ITPs, and material submittals; raise and resolve technical queries; manage red-line updates; and support preparation of as-built documentation. Responsibilities include planning and supervising hydrostatic testing, flow testing, main drain testing, pump performance testing, system flushing, detector and device functional testing, cause-and-effect verification, and integrated systems testing to confirm sequence of operations. Regular engagement with project managers, AHJ/inspectors, consultants, and client representatives is expected to maintain schedule adherence, quality compliance, and safe execution throughout the construction phase.
Qualifications
Should have strong site experience in fire protection execution with solid knowledge of wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, foam, and clean agent systems, along with fire alarm and detection integration. Proficiency in reading and interpreting fire protection layouts, riser and zone diagrams, hydraulic calculation summaries, pump room schematics, and fire alarm cause-and-effect matrices is essential, including the ability to validate shop drawings and resolve field conditions. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Navisworks, and model review platforms, as well as experience coordinating with BMS/SCADA for monitoring and control points, is preferred for clash coordination and construction documentation.
A deep understanding of how fire protection systems interface with architectural egress, structural supports and seismic bracing, HVAC smoke control, electrical power and fire alarm, and life-safety strategies is critical for effective site coordination. The role requires the capability to identify deviations, assess life-safety risks, and guide contractors with clear technical instructions while maintaining compliance with U.S. codes and standards and good industry practice, including NFPA standards, IBC/IFC requirements, and project-specific specifications. Strong communication, analytical thinking, and confident on-site decision-making are important, together with a disciplined focus on safety, quality, and commissioning/acceptance testing deliverables. Background in the Iron & Steel sector, with involvement in Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant construction activities will be an added preference.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline required.
