What is field joint coating?

Field joint coating refers to the process of applying a protective layer to the exposed joints where sections of pipeline are welded together in the field. Since the original pipe coating is usually applied at the factory and is cut back during welding, these joints require on-site coating to ensure the entire pipeline is protected from corrosion and environmental damage. The coating materials and methods can vary based on pipeline specifications and environmental conditions. Proper field joint coating is essential for maintaining pipeline integrity and longevity.
