Job description

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Tennessee Blaster to join our heavy civil construction team. This role is critical in executing safe and efficient blasting operations for roadways, bridges, utilities, and large-scale earthwork projects. The Licensed Blaster will work closely with superintendents, drillers, and vendors to ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental requirements, government regulations, and project specifications.
Qualifications
  • Current Tennessee Blasting License required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of blasting experience in heavy civil or related industries in Tennessee
  • Knowledge of drilling and blasting techniques, explosives handling, and vibration
  • Strong communication and coordination skills for working with project teams, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical drawings, blast plans, and site-specific requirements
Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and design blasting operations in coordination with superintendents and project engineers.
  2. Supervise and direct drilling and blasting crews, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  3. Handle explosives in strict accordance with federal, state, and company policies.
  4. Prepare blast sites, including layout, timing sequences, and initiation systems.
  5. Coordinate pre-blast surveys and communicate with stakeholders regarding potential impacts.
  6. Monitor blast performance, including vibration, air overpressure, and fragmentation results, adjusting techniques as needed.
  7. Maintain accurate records of blasting activities, including inventory logs, regulatory reports, and blast results.
  8. Coordinate with drillers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials, equipment, and blasting products.
  9. Ensure safety compliance by leading site inspections, toolbox talks, and training for crew members.
  10. Troubleshoot blasting issues in the field and implement corrective actions promptly.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods in outdoor environments
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, dust, etc.)
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain, around heavy equipment, and in high-noise environments
  • Must have adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to safely handle explosives and blasting equipment
  • Willingness to work extended or irregular hours as project schedules require
