This pivotal mental health expert collaborates within a multidisciplinary team, dedicated to orchestrating both micro and mezzo-level care strategies for the campus community. For students with severe psychiatric conditions or other conditions outside the scope of our services, the Professional Expert will provide the appropriate supportive resources on and off campus
This Professional Expert will provide psychological services on-campus during the teaching days of Fall & Spring Semester and will not exceed 10 hours a week. This is a temporary position unless authorized to extend for a longer period depending on the need. Example of Duties Example of Duties: Provide mental health services, including brief individual, couples, and group counseling.
Provide mental health assessment and referral services to students with a wide range of mental health needs to support their academic success and retention. Provide triage and crisis intervention at the clinic to students in need, and act as a resource for faculty and staff. For students with severe psychiatric conditions or other conditions outside the scope of our services, this professional expert is to provide the appropriate supportive on and off campus resources.
Follow standard protocols for psychological counseling and adhere to ethical principles as stipulated by the Board of Behavioral Sciences and/or American Psychological Association and in accordance with laws and regulations pertaining to behavioral health care in the State of California. Assess the mental health needs of students and develop an appropriate plan of brief intervention with the student(s). Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, and administration on mental health and wellness issues that may influence student behavior.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and campus community to design innovative programs that promote student mental wellness and support student retention and success. These programs are prevention focused and may include anger management, substance abuse harm reduction, relationship skills development, and suicide prevention. Ensure students have knowledge of and equal access to campus-based mental health services through a variety of venues, such as student orientation, ongoing outreach, marketing, and small and large group education.
Provide group workshops and psychoeducation for the campus as requested. Assist with tabling events, initiatives, and awareness campaigns. Maintain collaborative relationships with local mental health agencies.
Maintain currency of knowledge and skills related to the duties and responsibilities. Review, research, and modify mental health protocols/policies on an annual basis to assure compliance with laws, regulations, and accepted professional standards of practice; gather data to determine campus trends and needs; recommend protocol/policy modifications in response to identified needs. Participate in the Program Review Process, Student Learning Outcome measures, and other quality improvement projects as assigned.
Prepare reports of mental health service activities, utilization statistics, outcome measures, and others as needed. Maintain confidential student information according to FERPA and HIPAA and maintain complete mental health treatment records. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Qualifications: Must possess a Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or Professional Clinical Counseling and be registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Must maintain proper liability insurance throughout their employment. Must pass a background clearance.
Must submit proof of a negative tuberculosis test or chest x-ray. Must display effective communication skills, be culturally competent, have the ability to adapt to various demands of clients, must show ability to demonstrate dependability, and willingness to show initiative in carrying out responsibilities. Must attend and participate in weekly supervision meetings.
Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for, the academic, ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of students and staff attending or working on a community college campus. Work Schedule / Supplemental Information Work Schedule / Supplemental Information This position is designated as a professional expert short-term, non-continuous employee Time: 10-20 Hours per Week Days of the Week: Mon-Fri, teaching days only Shift Includes: Mandatory Staff Meetings, commit to an 8 hour shift coverage, each week 1 additional flexible hour is reserved for any events, workshops, or classroom presentation requests Weekly supervision by a Licensed Mental Health Clinician will be provided in accordance with state requirements. In-person hours are required on the Monterey Campus.
