Environmental Project Manager (Wetlands/Permitting)

About the Role
Stokes Environmental is seeking an Environmental Project Manager to lead and deliver environmental consulting projects, with a focus on wetlands, permitting, and environmental services.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects from start to finish; balancing fieldwork, technical expertise, and team coordination, while working closely with leadership in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
What You’ll Do
- Lead environmental projects, including;
- Wetland delineations and stream assessments (tidal and non-tidal)
- Environmental permitting (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, DEQ, local agencies)
- Oversee and review technical reports, permit applications, and supporting documentation
- Conduct and supervise fieldwork, data collection, and site evaluations
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies throughout project execution
- Provide guidance on wetland regulations and compliance requirements
- Support restoration, mitigation, and environmental project work
- Supervise and mentor junior staff in both field and office settings
- Collaborate with internal team members to ensure efficient, high-quality project delivery
What We’re Looking For
- BS or higher in environmental science, biology, environmental engineering, or related field
- 5-10+ years of relevant experience in environmental consulting
- Strong experience with wetland delineations, environmental permitting, and technical report preparation and review
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Familiarity with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and VA DEQ permitting processes
- Proven ability to manage projects, timelines, and priorities
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred:
- Experience in Southeast Virginia
- Professional certifications or progress towards certification
Work Environment
- Mix of field and in-person office work throughout the year (approximately 30-40% field, 60-70% office).
- Regular travel to job sites (valid driver’s license required) involving outdoor work in varied terrain and weather conditions.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $65,000 - $95,000 Varies based on experience, education, and skill.
