The Transportation Financial Trainee will report to the Accounts Payable section of the Finance Division in Kanawha County. This position performs entry
level accounting support duties under general supervision. Responsibilities include reviewing and processing General Accounting
Expense (GAX) documents in wvOASIS. The trainee is also responsible for researching GAX rejections and collaborating closely with
district personnel to resolve discrepancies, along with performing other duties as assigned.
Pay Grade 8
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for scanning and maintaining files
  • Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail
  • Types a variety of documents from verbal or written instructions
  • May keep a log of items received and sent
  • Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages and complaints, and gives information to the caller regarding the services and procedures of the organizational unit
  • Operates office equipment such as a computer, adding machine, copier, fax machine, or other office equipment
  • Learns to provide accounting or financial support work in general accounting and payroll
  • Learns to review and analyze federal and state regulations and local provisions regarding salary and benefit issues
  • Learns to provide information and instruction regarding procedures and methods involved in processing payroll; interprets and explains rules and regulations involving payroll
  • Learns to analyze and maintain annual and sick leave accruals
  • Learns to reconcile, prepare, and distribute all W-2 information, as well as any W-2corrections as needed, in conjunction with the WV State Auditor's Office
  • Learns to approve, track, enter, and request information in regards to employee benefits management
  • Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required

Skills and Knowledge
  • Operations require basic or commonly used rules or guidelines that involve some prior level of training
  • Ability to perform easy routine tasks
  • Knowledge of the basic office equipment such as a computer copier, and adding machine
  • Ability to follow basic step by step instructions
  • Ability to maintain routine clerical records
  • Ability to review accounting information
  • Ability to gather and compile data

Minimum Requirements
REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • No experience required.
