THE ROLE OF THE CIVIL ENGINEER INTERN (EI):
This is an entry level position charged with applying engineering fundamentals to the design and construction of community infrastructure. We desire team-oriented people who foster a positive work atmosphere, are collaborative partners and strive toward getting projects accomplished on time and on budget.
This position reports directly to a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and will:
  • Collaborate in diverse teams to create construction drawings and specifications for municipal projects, site development, and land infrastructure.
  • Manage and engage in engineering projects of different scales and intricacies.
  • Aid in preparing and analyzing reports, maps, drawings, and relevant data for project planning and design.
  • Utilize computer-aided design software to create project plans including alignments, profiles, sections, and design criteria.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Use engineering knowledge and experience to break down project elements and produce design tasks according to the project element.
  • Conduct site visits with a focus on data gathering and attention to project scope and engineering principles.
  • Gather, analyze, and review technical design data, calculations, and engineering work while adhering to standards and codes.
  • Develops design sketches based on engineering principles and project requirements, ensuring clarity and neatness.
  • Address review comments from clients and agencies by relying on project understanding and analytical skills to produce recommended responses.
  • Calculate construction quantities and costs using engineering principles, mathematical, and computer skills.
  • Compile technical data to create coherent construction specifications following project and engineering standards.
  • Develop bid alternatives based on project plans, standards, and past projects, subject to review by experienced engineers.

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a Civil, Environmental or Biosystems Engineering degree from an ABET accredited University, and:
  • Desire to work invarious civil engineering fields (transportation, water, wastewater, drainage,and bridges).
  • Strong technical knowledge of engineering systems, materials, and procedures.
  • Passed or scheduled the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and with diverse professional teams.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Prioritization and delegation skills.
  • Interest in pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, MicroStation, or OpenRoads.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver's license.
