Job description

General Description WELCOME TO VIP - VOLUNTEER IN PASCO. Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners and giving back to your community. In Pasco County, we strive to provide excellent public services that meet the needs of our citizens and enhance the quality of lives for our residents and visitors.

Assist with the organization and implementation of daily Emergency Management activities. Provide office and field research, clerical and other assistance to the Emergency Management staff. You can view the VIP Manual at the below listed website, prior to completing the VIP application: VIP Manual Essential Job Functions The Emergency Management field is based on the collaborative efforts of numerous disciplines.

Students in the following academic programs will be considered for an internship: Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Data Entry, Communications/Public Relations, Public Administration/Political Science, Business Administration, Geography/Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Studies, Geology, Health, Social Sciences, Psychology, Meteorology, Non-profit Management, Pre-Law, Professional and Technical Writing, Aging Studies, Computer Science, Civil & Environmental Engineering. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities A semester-long, unpaid internship where the student will design and complete a project relevant to his or her area of study, which will mutually benefit the Pasco County Office of Emergency Management (Pasco OEM). Interns will be given opportunities to attend local and State of Florida training, work in the field under Pasco OEM supervision, in the office and/or in the Emergency Operations Center during activations.

Minimum Requirements Accepting all Volunteer applicants. Internship applicants must be actively enrolled in a college or university. Applicants that are not enrolled in a college or university may be considered for a volunteer position with Pasco OEM.

Miscellaneous Information: Volunteers/Interns will be provided with actual working space, desk, computer and software necessary to support your assigned tasks in the West Pasco Government Center, New Port Richey. Virtual Internships are a possibility for students located 45 minutes or more from Pasco OEM; however, the student's college or university must furnish a workspace with computer, internet and landline access to complete assigned tasks. At time of submitting an application, please attach a resume, unofficial school transcript and Letter of Intent detailing why you should be selected to work at Pasco OEM and three educational and/or career goals you hope to meet during your volunteering/internship.
