Work Shift
Wellstar Medical Group is seeking a BC/BE Trauma Acute Care Surgeon to join our busy, collegial trauma team at Kennestone as a surgeon and EGS leader. Kennestone is a level 1 trauma center located in Marietta, just Northwest of Atlanta and has the busiest Emergency department in the state.
Other pertinent details:
- GME surgery residency program and teaching opportunities.
- Approximately 15% penetrative trauma
- Seasoned trauma program with large group comprised of 10 physicians, 24/7 APP coverage in house, responsible for covering trauma, surgical critical care for trauma patients and acute care surgery.
- Flexible call schedule, in house trauma/EGS call requirement up to 6 24-hour calls per month (or 14 12's) with a minimum of 5 24-hour calls per month.
- ICU week in rotation shared equally between partners.
- Backup call schedule shared equally between partners.
- Great work-life balance and opportunities for growth and teaching.
Ideal candidates are as follows:
- Hold current board certification or board eligibility in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPS-C), Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery and be credentialed to provide general surgery and surgical critical care services
- state of GA licensure or willingness to apply and obtain
- Hold current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS®) certification, instructor status preferred
- Have experience and comfort with providing trauma surgical and surgical critical care coverage
- Participate fully in the Acute Care Surgery call panel covering clinical services as directed by the WMG ACS Lead physician (Trauma, EGS, SICU, night, backup shifts)
The ideal candidate for the EGS leadership role will have the following experience and characteristics:
- Significant experience and comfort with Emergency General Surgery (practical experience at a high volume EGS center during training or since completion of training)
- Genuine interest and passion for the field of Emergency General Surgery
- Prior leadership experience with EGS or a related field (Trauma Medical Director, Associate Trauma Medical Director, Surgical Quality Role, NSQIP physician lead, etc.)
- Interest in taking a leadership role to grow and develop our extremely busy EGS service under the direction of the Wellstar Medical Group Acute Care Surgery Lead Physician
The EGS lead role is responsible for quality of care within the EGS department, program development, program administration and marketing, patient and staff education and any other EGS related duties as assigned.
