Description
This position is a Dual Role Position: 12 hours as a Health Unit Coordinator and 36 hours as an Emergency Department Technician
12-hour shifts: 7:00pm-7:30am
Purpose of ED Tech Job
This position is responsible for providing individualized care to patients in an emergency setting according to established standards, policies and procedures.
Purpose of HUC Job
This position is responsible for assisting staff in the coordination of intra-and inter-departmental activities and communication. Assists with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN.
ED Tech Job Functions
  1. Prepares and transports patients for examination.
  2. Assists emergency staff in direct and non-direct patient care functions as delegated.
  3. Performs EKGs and point of care testing.
  4. Applies splints and braces on patients as ordered assuring good CMS after application.
  5. Performs mandatory equipment checks.
  6. Documents the various aspects of care on appropriate forms according to RMC policies and procedures.
  7. Accompanies ambulance transports and assists with airway management as needed.
  8. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Emergency.
  9. Assists with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN.
  10. Prepares equipment and aids providers during examination, testing, and treatments of patients.
  11. Maintains stocked supplies of equipment in emergency department.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

HUC Job Functions
1. Facilitates physician orders.
2. Communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activities to appropriate staff.
3. Processes admission, transfers, discharges and schedules appointments.
4. Restocks and orders supplies for unit/area.
5. Completes assigned clerical responsibilities.
6. Performs support functions for management staff as required.
7. Maintains the flow of the department by coordinating care of the patient between other departments.
8. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Emergency.
9. Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
10. Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Completion of a Nursing Assistant or EMT course OR completion of a Nurse Internship with Ridgeview Medical Center OR an approved combination of education and experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
  • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

License/Certifications
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications
  • EMT Certification
  • Nursing Assistant Certification
  • Experience as a Nursing Assistant or EMT
  • Experience in a hospital setting
