The Driver Class D License is a basic license required for operating personal and certain commercial vehicles. A Delivery Driver typically holds a Class D license but also specializes in delivering goods, often requiring knowledge of routes and customer service. While both roles involve driving, Delivery Drivers focus on transportation of goods within specific industries, making the license a foundational credential for their job.

What are some common challenges faced by Class D License drivers, and how can they be managed on the job?

Class D License drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating heavy traffic, adhering to tight delivery schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Managing these challenges requires strong time management skills, a good understanding of route planning, and a commitment to regular vehicle maintenance. Communication with dispatchers and team members is essential to address unexpected issues like road closures or vehicle breakdowns, ensuring timely updates and efficient problem-solving. Staying organized and proactive can greatly improve job performance and reduce stress in this role.

What is a Driver Class D License?

A Driver Class D License is a standard driver's license that permits the holder to operate passenger vehicles, such as cars, vans, and small trucks, for personal use on public roads. This license is the most common type issued for non-commercial driving in many states and provinces. It does not allow the operation of large commercial vehicles, motorcycles, or vehicles carrying hazardous materials. To obtain a Class D license, applicants typically must pass written and road tests and meet age and residency requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Driver with a Class D License, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Driver with a Class D License, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and a solid understanding of road safety regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, basic vehicle maintenance, and sometimes electronic logging devices (ELDs) is often required. Reliability, good communication, and strong time management skills help drivers interact professionally and meet delivery schedules. These abilities ensure safe, timely transportation of passengers or goods and support customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance.

Job description

Since 1977, Pacific Coast Fresh Company has been a cornerstone of the Pacific Northwest food scene. From humble beginnings as a family-run produce shop, we've grown into one of the region's top independent food distributors-delivering farm-fresh produce, dairy, proteins, and specialty goods across the Northwest and into Canada.
It's not just what we deliver, but how we show up for our people and our partners that defines us. Rooted in the values of Service, Quality, Integrity, Purposeful Growth, Sustainability, and Family, we're committed to feeding communities with care, reliability, and respect.
The Role at a Glance:
We're looking for Local CDL Delivery Drivers to join our Kent-based team. As a PCF driver, you'll be the face of our company to our customers-delivering quality products on time with professionalism and a smile.
This position is a Night shift beginning at 8:00pm.
If you're reliable, safety-minded, and enjoy being out on the road, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do Each Day:
  • Deliver a variety of food products to local restaurants, retailers, and foodservice partners
  • Operate company vehicles in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner
  • Unload product using a lift gate and hand truck or electric pallet jack as needed
  • Follow all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety procedures
  • Communicate with dispatch and customers to ensure smooth deliveries
  • Represent PCF with professionalism and a customer-first attitude

What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • A valid Class A CDL
  • A clean driving record and current DOT medical card
  • At least 1 year of commercial driving experience, ideally with food or beverage delivery
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly and work in varied weather conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and time management
  • A team-first attitude with a commitment to safety and service

Why This is More Than a Job:
At PCF, we're proud to support our drivers with tools for success-on and off the road. You'll enjoy:
  • Competitive starting pay based on the class of your license, experience level, and route-specific incentives-ensuring fair compensation for the value you bring
  • Comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with profit-sharing plan, and paid time off
  • Local routes-home daily
  • Access to fresh produce through employee programs
  • A team built on respect, support, and shared purpose

Ready to Hit the Road?
If you're ready to drive for a company that values your work and invests in your future, apply today. Let's deliver something great-together.
