Job description

Job Title: RESIDENTIAL GARAGE DOOR SERVICE TECH

Department: SERVICE

Reports to: Service Manager or Branch Manager

Job Summary: service garage doors and/or opening and closing mechanisms of automatic doors.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Adjust doors to open or close according to safety standards and make adjustments to electric openers.
  • Apply hardware to door sections, such as drilling holes to install locks.
  • Repair or replace worn or broken door parts, using hand tools.
  • Carry springs to tops of doors, using ladders, and attach springs to shafts.
  • Wind and unwind springs using the correct motion of arm and proper sized tool.
  • Inspect job sites, assessing headroom, side room or other conditions to determine appropriateness of door for a given location.
  • Assemble and fasten tracks to structures or bucks using impact wrenches.
  • Fasten angle iron backhangers to ceilings and tracks, using fasteners.
  • Install door frame bucks, rails, electroniceye mechanisms, or electric door openers and closers, using power tools or hand tools.
  • Cut door stops to fit openings.
  • Set doors into place or stack hardware sections into openings after rail or track installation.
  • Remove or disassemble defective automatic mechanical door closers, using hand tools.
  • Study blueprints and schematic diagrams to determine appropriate methods of installing or repairing automated door openers.
  • Order replacement springs, sections, or slats.
  • Lubricate doors
  • Bore or cut holes in flooring as required for installation, using hand or power tools.
  • Collect payment upon job completion when required.
  • On company supplied devices complete required paperwork, such as work orders, according to services performed or required.
  • Essential Job Skills/Requirements:
  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and have ability to drive a vehicle on daily basis.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 80 pounds overhead.
  • Must be able to change a flat tire on truck should it be needed.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that can be repetitive and require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.
  • Must be able to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Must be able to communicate with supervisors and peers, providing information by telephone, in written form and/or in person.
  • Must be able to deal with the public and possess good customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow safe work practices as outlined in D & D Garage Doors Safety Program.
